ObamaCare sends a message to married couples – You’re out of step.
Prior to ObamaCare being passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court, opponents of the healthcare legislation predicted that costs would rise significantly for most people, that doctors would resign, that patients’ regular doctors would not be as available as before, and that wait times to see doctors would increase.
But even the most vocal about their beliefs did not predict that it would happen this quickly. Most of them were giving ObamaCare at least a year or two before it became the train wreck so many were expecting. But let’s give ObamaCare some credit…it is reaching those “goals” much more quickly than anticipated.
A survey by the Washington Examiner shows that ObamaCare applicants are seeing their rates doubled and tripled, and are finding that their favorite doctors are unavailable. In addition, they’re learning that prestigious hospitals offering specialized care are off-limits to them.
Many healthcare providers want nothing to do with the exchanges that ObamaCare has set up – including United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna and Coventry – while others such as Blue Cross Blue Shield are staying in but are narrowing their networks to exclude many doctors and elite hospitals. And if that isn’t bad enough, policy prices are skyrocketing.
Who are some of the people getting hit the hardest by price increases? I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that the answer is married couples, according to Fox News. This should have been expected from an administration that has repeatedly proven itself to be anti-family.In our liberal government’s never-ending quest for the re-distribution of wealth and the destruction of the traditional family, married couples could now be paying an average of $10,000 more per year for healthcare insurance than their unmarried counterparts, as a result of the way the ObamaCare subsidies are calculated.
The system is set up to benefit couples living together without being married. Here’s how. Individuals can earn up to $45,960 and still qualify for thousands of dollars in subsidies, but married couples can’t qualify if they together make more than $62,040. In other words, an unmarried couple living together can still qualify for subsidies if they earn approximately $90,000 total (assuming neither makes more than $45,960), but married couples can’t qualify even though they are making nearly $30,000 less.
Isn’t it funny that an unmarried couple is more likely to vote for a Democrat for president than a married couple is? Must be a coincidence.
What has been your experience with ObamaCare? I’d love to know, and so would our readers.
I am currently the only one working my household. My insurance went up from $!25.00 a month for myself and my husband to $276.00 after Obamacare passed! Because of it I was only bringing home a little over $800.00 a month! (I work in a school system that only gets paid monthly) My husband had not been able to find work, so we had to do something. We signed him up on free Insurance for him, So my insurance went down, but it is still over $130.00 just for me! And I hear that it is going up even further this year! I am 60, (very healthy do not have to take any meds) and my husband is 59. He is healthy also. But it’s hard to find a job when you’re our age.
Well, I just got my letter telling me that my Blue Cross Blue Shield of NM plan is expiring and no longer being offered as of Dec 31, 2015. No, not happy!
In 2013 my Blue Cross Blue Shield was $300 per month, before I was on Medicare. When Obama Care started, my same health insurance, from BCBS cost $608 per month. Of course I changed companies, doctors, and RX plans. Thanks, Obama! You really messed up my health care expenses! (Add a string of cussing.)
If we were gay, we would be set. Yep Obama wants to destroy the traditional family, and America in general. I said this 8 years ago. It’s gonna get worse kids, a lot worse. Start stocking up for a long storm folks, the s..t is really gonna hit the fan.
I live in Virginia where we have Medicaid HMO. Which is decent coverage. I am one of the few ,probably, on this site who is grateful for the insurance; That’s not to say that I do not empathize with others who are having a tuff time. I see so many people around me that are suffering, I was always told that if we look around enough that we will find someone that is worse off than ourselves, so always be grateful for what we do have. About 4 years ago I was having problems walking to the grocery store One night as me and my young son were walking home I collapsed by the side of the road thank God my son was there he ran to the house there by us and rang the door bell until someone answered the door my son saved my life. My cardiologist eventually found the blockage and I had a bypass done I will have to take generic Plavix for the rest of my life but that is just a small thing to deal with.
That’s pbama want us to do, shack up and live in sin?
He’s married or is he?
My poor daughter barely over 30 was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She works with special needs kids and makes a whopping $12 per hour. Her ACA premiums through the exchange are over $450 a month. The incredible part is even though she has paid over 3 months worth of premiums they have paid for nothing. Not one dime!! We are trying to get pre approval for some crucial testing for her and they are dragging their feet. We haven’t been able to converse with anyone that sports more than a 60IQ so were very frustrated. I don’t want to lose my baby because someone cant pull their head from their @ss. I’ll bet if this was the daughter of some politician she would have the very best. She has worked all of her short life. She has never been on any kind of government assistance. Nor have we. Why cant we be allowed to get help for my daughter Obama?
Kevin, I am deeply saddened to hear about your daughter and how she is being treated. I am not sure how long ago your post was but I hope there has been a change for the better. Your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers. While you are waiting for the gov to “work”, have you thought about natural remedies? Cancer is anaerobic so it lives in a oxygen deficient state. When our bodies become acidic, they become incapable of carrying oxygen. Make her body more alkaline and look in to hydrogen peroxide and other oxygen boosting therapies. People laugh at natural therapies but everything we need ,God put everything on this earth. Check out ormus too.
Goggle a simple cure of baking soda and maple syrup for cancer.
This very surprising to here since the Obama-care legislation was modeled after Romni-care. The Democrats used Republican legislation and took the plan for their own.
Imagine if the Republicans had passed their own ideas and we were stuck with this flop. Dodged a bullet there.
Any opportunity to express the intelligence of the Obama Dead Heads!
I disagree with you .
Wow. You have no idea what and how Romnicare works, do you? Neither do you have any knowledge of the ACA. People like you discredit this President, the democrats, and liberals in general. At what point did it become acceptable to be so incredibly stupid? And be proud enough, or stupid enough, to get it out there?
In January 2013, my prescription drug cost went from $25/month to $400/month. As this was not for a life-saving medication, I dropped the drug, dropped the drug dealer (doctor) and began the journey to a healthier lifestyle. In January 2014, I adapted a mostly Vegan diet (a bit of organic 1/2 & 1/2 in my one cup of coffee in the morning & the use of raw honey in baked goods occasionally are not Vegan), eating whole, unprocessed foods prepared at home and exercised regularly. One year later, I am healthier than I have been in 30 years. I never have constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, heart burn, etc. except when I need to eat out. My emotional state is significantly improved. My taste buds are alive. I never have the 2:30pm sluggishness and have plenty of energy for the day. Not to mention the 20 lbs. I lost. I will never go back to my old lifestyle. I can only thank the AHCA for making this possible. The government would have you believe that there is no other choice than their concocted mess of (not) health plans. Take control of your life and tell them to stick it!
As far as the tax penalty, I have enough insurance to avoid the penalties which I pay for myself. I won’t go anywhere near the government insurance site. It may take some homework, but there are other choices out there. Whether those choices are affordable or not – well you know all about government names for legislation – Affordable Health Care Act, Patriot Act, etc.
Great to hear about your health lifestyle changes, that’s the best solution. Some vegans have no problem with honey, especially from organic beekeepers. Honey is dehydrated flower nectar and the bees add some enzymes.
Unfortunately, our government today is hell bent on destroying the family unit and forcing the people to be dependent on the system. Unfortunately for me, I’m a victim of the Obamacare sharade. I am 40 years old, single, and unemployed. Because I live in PA, which has opted out of the extended Medicare system, and don’t collect any government benefits, I’m too young to qualify for Medicare, and too poor to afford even the cheapest plan (just over $200 a month) on the healthcare exchange. But the good news is, because of my income level (zero), I don’t have to pay any penalty at the end of the year. Thanks Obamacare, I appreciate it – from the bottom my @$$.
Rick, my son, age 31 is in the same situation as you. Unemployed, though he just finished a stint of seasonal retail work at a major chain department store. He and his daughter, my granddaughter, live with us and we have two other grown sons in their twenties still commuting to college daily who still live here. With my husband and I, there are 6 of us in our little row home. Our insurance just went up $400 more per month and $20 more per specialist visit. We’ve been supporting our granddaughter for a few years, who is now 8 and needs a different wardrobe twice a year due to changing seasons (we live in the northeast) and rapid height growth. Yet we don’t have custody, so we can’t get a tax credit for her. I don’t think next Christmas that gift giving will be possible, let alone meeting our monthly budget going forward.
Oh, forgot to include that the only one of us who gets any government aid is our grand with school lunches and her insurance is from her mama through ObamaScare. Her mama & our son are divorced. We’re also in PA. She formerly had CHIP.
