Were Simultaneous Blackouts a Dry Run for a Future Terror Attack?
It feels like a pretty typical day in most areas of the country. In some towns, the sun is shining. In others, there’s rain. It’s breezy in a number of cities. Calm in others. But suddenly Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, New York City, Washington D.C. and several other large metropolises all have something in common. Something disturbingly frightening. A highly coordinated cyber-attack has cut the power in each city. As nightfall approaches, every law enforcement official in each major city is told to report for duty. A wild night of looting and rioting is coming. And nobody knows when the lights will come back on.
Fiction? Maybe not.
On April 21, three major U.S. cities – New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco – experienced virtually simultaneous power outages. Businesses emptied. Schools closed. Subway commuters were stuck underground in the dark.
Rumors immediately started flying that a cyber-attack had caused all three blackouts.
The “official” word in San Francisco was that the outage was caused by a fire in a substation. In Los Angeles, high winds were blamed. In New York, an equipment failure was the announced culprit.
We may never know if those causes were real. Perhaps they were. Or maybe somebody was conducting a dry run for a much more widespread and long-lasting blackout.
What If?
Just imagine the incredible chaos that would ensue if this horrifying scenario played out in 10, 15 or 20 of our major cities. At the exact same time!
If one of our enemies wants to “get us” – and we know very well that they do – what better way than to conduct a highly organized cyber-attack? One that throws numerous large cities into the dark at the same time.
They wouldn’t need to drop a single bomb. They wouldn’t need to fire a single shot. All they’d have to do is cut our power.
Then they could just sit back and watch as we self-destruct through looting, rioting and the targeting of police officers.
What if North Korea Actually Launches a Nuclear Weapon?
We’ve been seeing a lot of saber rattling by North Korea lately. Some are saying that Kim Jong Un’s nuclear testings and threats are what prompted our government to conduct a “full-scale terror attack drill” in Washington, D.C. last week.
In that drill, law enforcement and first responders participated in an exercise “designed to prepare for the possibility of a complex coordinated terror attack in the National Capital Region.” That’s according to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
It was staged at six different sites across the District of Columbia and the Virginia and Maryland suburbs. They even used volunteer actors to pose as casualties.
As much of a threat as the North Korean leader is becoming to the U.S. and our interests, Japan is probably feeling the pressure even more than we are.
According to a recent Fox News report, following a potential North Korean missile launch in their direction, the Japanese would have only 10 minutes to take cover. One Japanese official said it might be more like four or five minutes.
Obviously they’re taking it very seriously there because the Japanese government has set up a website detailing what people should do if and when the alarm is sounded.
We Are the Real Target!
But even an attack on Japan – as horrific as that might be – would be a dry run for what North Korea really wants to accomplish. And that’s destroying us. We would be next in the sights of this maniac.
He’s made no secret about the fact that he wants to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. His five nuclear tests (so far) and recent firings of long-range rockets prove he’s serious.
And it sure seems to me like our government is really starting to feel the heat.
I think it’s a great idea to prepare for a worst-case scenario. But I also have to think that there was more to last week’s terror attack drill in Washington, D.C. than what was announced.
The link to North Korea seems pretty obvious, due to the timing of the drill. And now we’re hearing that our Korean War veterans are concerned that another round of fighting might be right around the corner.
More than 33,000 Americans died in that conflict in the early 1950s, and some of the veterans are worried that the South Korean democracy they fought for could be destroyed if North Korea is not stopped.
“I think the guy’s a madman,” Korean War veteran Lawrence O’Leary told Newsday. “I don’t like war, but at some point you’ve got to stop people like him.”
Folks, we might have a guy in the Oval Office who makes us feel better about the future than the last guy did. But it has become very clear that the future of this topsy-turvy world is NOT secure, no matter who is president. We need to do everything possible now to make sure we survive whatever is coming.
It’s no secret that our power grid is failing and vulnerable to an attack.
Lose power and it could be devastating. Unless you’re completely prepared…
Our top recommendation in portable solar generators is the Patriot Power Generator.
This breakthrough device produces an endless supply of life-saving electricity when you need it most – and without gas, fumes or noise.
You can see a live demo of it in action here
Yes he’s crazy enough to launch one. But Russian is helping him if we fire on North Korea Russia will fire on us the end for every one. We need to get with Russia and let them over throw the littlest dictator
You have a good solar generator for emergency power which depends on a lithium battery and a fragile solar panel. Where is your article on maintenance? Spares? Ageing?
Does this generator work if it rains. For a week or so. The sun is great when it shines
Great article and very real on what would go down in a widespread blackout. For those who can’t imagine there is a made for TV movie that was made in 2013 I believe called “Americas Blackout” watch it it’s close to what could happen.
If I could buy on lay-away I would have one. Seriously, the device is worth saving for, just find it hard to save anything. My problem not yours.
As much as some of us would like to have the power generator, some folks are limited by the cost. I know the response would be, at what price do you out on saving your family and love ones. I get that. How can we get the generator on some form of payment plan? I have prepped with a years long worth of supplies but cannot afford the generator at the price requested. It took me a good while to get where I am at today and thankful nothing has happened while getting prepared. I also live in an apartment setting and would love to have any ideas how to prep my apartment in an event something happens. Thank you for all the supplies and any suggestions you may have is greatly appreciated. Where I live is not in an urban area and at the edge of town close to three exit routes if the need to bug out became an issue. Thank you very much and God Bless you and your organization.
Do you really think a solar cell wouldn’t be knocked out by an EMP? Unless the whole thing is in a faraday cage when the event happens, it will be just as dead as the grid.
