Kriss is a solar expert and lives off the grid in the mountains of Colorado. He generates 100% of his own electricity via solar and wind, and he hasn’t paid a dime to the power company for the last 5 years… yet his home features all the comforts and conveniences of a modern home such as laptops, TVs, sleek appliances, etc.
Kriss invites you into his home in this exclusive video to show you how everything works and fits together. He shows you how his solar and wind system is wired together and stores power, how he uses passive solar to heat his home and much, much more. Kriss even sits down with his wife Sue to share some great advice and tips for people considering going off the grid.
This is a rare “behind-the-scenes” tour of off-grid living. We will soon be selling these videos as a separate product, however we want you to have them before anybody else and for free as a token of thanks for being a Power4Patriots customer. Just please watch it now because we can’t guarantee how long it will be online before we need to take it down and package it up for sale. Thank you again and enjoy!

a person of modest means may well be able to participate in some limited manor.
how well would it survive a emp?
why did you wire your solar panels 5 to 60 volt then convert to 24 volt. Why not do 2 in series 24 volt and do 5 parallel and skip the converter. It would seem to be more efficient.
My wife and I would love to live there!! Thanks
I have already watched this one. Great one. Don’t stop sending. Thanks Frank don’t use my last name.
Can you use ( lithium ) batteries for a solar system ?
At 73 years of age, I don’t get to go thru all the emails. You led me to foof4patriots and I purchased. I’m just getting too many emails from other sites like solutions from science, which I like, but can’t handle all of the other partner patriot members. Sometimes 10 per day. I appreciate all of them. I get no support from those close to me re prepare for disaster. Wish I knew others in my situation who are nearby, to join in this endeavor. I appreciate all of the efforts on my behalf. I’m not good with firearms or making a place self-reliant. But I have some of the cd’s, etc.
Thanks, great video. We have some solar, working on wind turbine, use rain & grey water for garden, septic, still on the grid, but someday…
Keep em coming, I get to them as quickly as I can. I plan on ordering the water filer as soon as I can budget it. Being retired sucks.
Keep your stuff coming my way…sometimes things get deleted before I get to them…would love to go all solar…an electrician friend of mine hasn’t had an electric bill in over 25 years…just visited with him in August and his system is going strong…need to continue gathering more finances.. good video…thanks to everyone involved …..
I am interested in your emails but recently have had serious physical problems in the family so not much time to spend on emils. Hopefully will resume shortly.
Well Frank I was tired the first time through. Made it a half-hour into the video and sleep took over till the last 3 minutes. Will need to watch it several times.
been very busy. i did finally watch the video. thanks for the info. keep sending emails
I already had this video, but enjoyed watching it again. It reminds me just how complex a solar electric setup is. That people can live so well and so frugally energy-wise at such a high altitude in Colorado is amazing. Keep the Emails coming.
Great information. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do.
I am well hoping you and yours are well. Thank you for all you are doing to help me be self reliant. God is our answer to knowledge.
I greatly appreciate all the info you send. I am sharing this with my family also. I dont think people realize how critical these issues are. The world is changing and not for the good.
I saw the video. I think it was great. I feel the idea of solar panels is great. I agree . Living off grid is the best thing for saving money. I also think using D- Battery’s Marine type is a great advantage for night use, as long as you have a good pure sine wave inverter. Of course the pure sine wave inverter will cost you $4000.00. for a 40 Amp unite Stackable. The average person with just two people use approx. 5Kwatts. The average low use house hold will use about 10Kwatts. Then again if you have a growing family with teen agers you just doubled that to 20 Kwatts. So. How many in your family depends on how much power you will need for your family. I feel when you go off grid you need to make sure you’re going to have enough power for your yourself and family. This will include a wind generator for night time power. I don’t believe in making my own solar panels due to the possibility of mismatching power cells. If you know exactly how to make them? Then go for it, but if not your better off just buying them. Save you the head ache. For a big system you’re better off with a 24 Volt configuration. For a smaller system you would be Okay with a 12 Volt system. I would rather have a 24 Volt system even if its only 10Kwatts. Other than the solar panel part the video was great.
I enjoy reading your emails as I would love to save money, but my husband and I are too old and not handy with tools to do what would be required to fix our place up. Keep them coming and stop blaming Obama for all your woes. LOL
its just great to be off grid some day I would like to be the same . I liked the video off the grid thank you
in joyed the videos . thank you
thanks for spending the time and effort to enlighten us all. this has been very informing and educational.
THIS VIDEO LOOKS KINDA INTERESTING.
BUT —
I CANNOT HEAR IT. I GOT THE VOLUME FULL UP.
MAYBE YOU JUST WANTED TO SEE IF I WOULD RESPOND.
Charles- Thanks for checking this out. Try reloading the video and make sure the volume is up on your computer and in the bottom tab of the video. That should help.
thanks for putting up with my lack of time to view videos. try working 60-65 hrs a week, running an investment company ang being a bi-vocational ministre. just have a lack of time
My wife and I have watched you off the Grid Video. The good news is, I bought your instructions a year or so back. We are now running at 31% Solar. What has been mentioned in other comments, is, it is very expensive, even though we are building it a piece at a time. Inverters and panels can be expensive, not even counting batteries.
We have cut our power cost by $100.00 a month on our own solar power system… There is so much we want to do to become free and independent from the power company’s in California. We have more sun than most and very HOT. We really want to thank you guys for the videos and your time to explain things in detail. you guys are great and god bless you all! Please don’t stop teaching and showing us new ways to improve our lives without the need of the “grid” if there are any other tips or tricks to this we would love to know more! Thank you and take care! :) Bill and Debbie
Thanks wonderful and informative but I live in a town that has a few zoning issues that I can’t fight due to a lack of money so short of moving or becoming a politicking gov crony do you have any get around ways that mite help me in the middle of town to get off grid thanks guys
All is well
Thanks for the great technical descriptions and hints. This is very enlightening and inspiring.
Frank, I have the throwing knives & the fight fast knife, & several of your items. When I see a duplicate offer, I delete it, if I already have the item you are placing on the page. If not, I look it over. Sometimes my wife says I’m spending too much money & she deletes it. But most of the time I check it out to see if I already have it. That’s all, nope, keep sending them, thanks………….
I live in Minneapolis MN in the city. Although my roof to the back yard faces south, it is downhill from another house. My next-door neighbor’s tree blocks some of the afternoon sun. The winters are brutal. If I plant a solar panel on the south roof, the city will raise my property taxes by revaluing my tax base. Somehow, I do not believe that solar power is in my near future.
I do look at the emails. I am interested in this. But money is our problem. I appreciate you.
Sorry, it’s not a gift if you can’t download it: it’s a come-on.
I must say this as inspired my fiancé and myself to want to live off the gird as well!!!! Finances are our biggest issue we have cut back on so much to try and save up to build our own solar and wind power system… There is so much we want to do to become free and independent from the power company’s grip living in Florida we have more sun than most plus a constant breeze from the ocean the possibilities are endless for us! I can not thank you guys enough for the videos and your time to explain things in detail you guys are wonderful people and god bless you all! Please don’t stop teaching and showing us new ways to improve our lives without the need of the “grid” if there are any other tips or tricks to this we would love to know more! Thank you and take care! :) Jen&Jerry S.
Frank
I look at all of your emails. I have been working on getting all of the parts for my wind system for 6 months now just about ready for when spring comes it will be 2000 watts + right now working on batteries that are affordable any help with that would be great
I just finished watching the “living off the grid” video. So thank you Frank for the Super Bowl gift. I wish Sue had talked about other aspects of living off the grid, like the medical aspect. How far to a hospital, emergency help, phones, children living in what I think of as a cold house, and other items when the grocery store is not just around the corner. Do they both work, so that they’re not home during the day, about a pantry or food storage, etc. In other words all the other patriot concerns, and especially affordability, as all that equipment sounded very expensive. Also, tell Kriss that the washer is a “front” loading washer, not a side :), I didn’t realize it used less water, is that true, or does it require a lesser load? Speaking of water, why do they have a water vault? Can’t they run the water thru a drain field and recycle through a garden & hose as not potable or something else? One other thing, as we get older, things happen with age and with children, what do people do then, move to an on-grid home? Where I live, in Washington State on an island, people do some off-grid living, mainly solar, wind and with generators, but to get a propane truck to some of us would be quite hard. I really want to thank Kriss and Sue for the video. Sue you have a lovely home, thanks for the intrusion into your home (in all those nook and crannies, and I might add, your lucky to have such a smart, knowledgable and capable husband. I have one of those too. GOD richly bless you both as well (with a little one to grow up in a fun place, and play where you need not worry), I truly appreciated the video.
Thank you for the most informative tour.
God bless , keep it up it is very needed.
Glen and Helene
I get busy sometimes and can’t keep up with the email, but am still interested, Thanks
Regarding the Video-The Batteries need to be ventilated-Also the corrosion on the connectors needs to be removed with battery cleaner spray and a brass wire brush and De Ox grease needs to be used on the connectors with stainless steel hardware.
I’m 74. We have an electric kitchen stove, electric water heater;propane furnace with AC;my wife has a small heater for bathroom up stairs & a portable heater for around her chair where she sews.House is a very old 2 story farm house
I have been looking for work the company I was with closed the office in this area. Still want the info you have will take more time to follow. The job market sucks anyway. And now I know Obama will take care of me ” PUKE”
Am considering PV, wind is way to erratic here to be of value, but if you come up with a rain powered system I would be in the pink!
Would like to receive the video. Thanks for your teaching. I keep thinking I will make time to watch, but, have really not done so…
Great Video
I have been very busy with other family situations so it is hard to keep up with all of the emails
but I am extremely interested in all of the information that you send to me.
Thanks again,
K.Daddato
I really enjoyed the video. It was well thought out, thoughtful, and specific. Thank you for being so detailed and doing a good job displaying the components and wiring. You might have mentioned it but I missed it; how much did your solar power system cost you? You mentioned the price of the $800 wind system but I didn’t catch the cost of the panels, converter, and batteries. I have purchased the Power for Patriots book and DVD’s and I’m looking forward to building my own with my sons. We’re a homeschooling family so it’s going to be a fun class!
Hey there, I would love to receive this free video. I like the other videos and appreciate your willingness to teach.
I have not been able to access the internet.
passive is the only sensible way to go. I am not in position just yet but the time will come where I will be fully self sufficient and rely on solar and wind for my energy supply. Any and all info. in these fields is useful.
thanks for all of the info. it is very helpful to know these things. We ordered the #1 item to hoard, but as of this date- 10/12/2013 we have not received it. I have been keeping all of the emails to read over. Keep them coming! Betty
Haven’t had time until today, to take the time to view the e-mails. I think she hit it on the head…you have to learn to be energy consumption conscious and disciplined, just like those watching their weight have to be conscious of their calorie intake. Good explanation of the system. Other than wind system, no costs were mentioned. In the 80’s I used wood to heat our home…propane was used only for water heater and stove. Wind / solar wasn’t much around at that time for electricity….although in central NE, windmills were used to pump water for livestock.
This was well worth viewing and I do appreciate your newletters, too. I do read each of them as they come in to me.
Thank you again,
Linda
I liked your talk of passive solar and deciduous trees and high efficiency measures, as well as your detailed and friendly explanations throughout.
I noticed you use a gas dryer, but why not a laundry line outside to dry clothes, at least in good weather? That’s an extremely low tech solution anyone can use.
This was very informative and wonderful. It’s good when you have someone who knows
what they are talking about.
Ever thaught about having some workshops or classes on this way of living.?
God Bless
Frank,
I work out of the State and gone for weeks at a time. I try catch up went I can. I do appreciate getting the email and want pot them to use and time permitting. keep the email coming please and thank you.
Jeff
The video was awesome. I am an electrical contractor in Los Angeles, CA with a C-46 license, which is a solar installation license. I have installed grid tie systems and a battery system but I haven’t done any wind.
In a couple of years I am going to move to central Florida and build a log house on the five acres I purchased last year. I am not sure yet if I am going to use grid tie or battery. But I am definitely going to use solar and wind.
I too am very busy and haven’t gotten to read all of yours lately but I do save them for future reading and reference. Keep them coming and thank you for all you do Frank.
Sincerely, Butch
Sparkey’s Electric
I have watched this video and it is very good. Thank you for sharing. Your efforts are not in vain. I will forward your site to some of my friends.
Blessings,
Petie
Just been really busy. I try to read or at least look at my e-mails. I would appreciate getting to the point just a bit faster, tho.
I too can not read them as they come, but save every email from Power4Patriots to read when I can. Please keep them coming, and thank you for all the info.
My erythema nodosum has had a reaction to my medicines and put me in the hospital again so I have been slow to recover. FYI: I never received any shipments from you to set up what I have paid for so this is not done. Could you please check this. I do not have money to throw away. I believed your ideas and wanted this for me, too, but I have not received anything to date. Thank you for your help in this matter. Nancy
Kriss, This is all really interesting. It is actually amazing.
You’re not bothering me at all- My inbox is jam-packed a lot of the time, plus health issues have left me unable to work or do much at all. I can’t always get to your emails right away, but I keep them stored in my “FYI” folder (both read & unread) for future reference. Thanks 4 the video!
Hi, I’ve been reading your messages since I started membership. I’ve tried to install a solar system in my house, but an abundance of city codes and not enough space to install a solar system . I do have a property away from the city with plenty of room and I intend to use the information in your messages in the future to accomplish or complete and install a solar system. I’m taking notes and in the near future I plan to work on the solar project.
Ron
Thanks for this very informative video about off-grid power. Didn’t realize how much equipment and maintenance a solar sytem requires! We’re senior citizens who will probably need to have a knowledgable person install and teach us how to maintain such a system. Appreciate all the energy-saving tips.
We have been very busy for the past year, so just now making time for your info’.
Thanks again!
Dear Frank,
Thank you for all you are doing. I enjoyed watching the video, great one day we will be completely independent, cannot wait.
I still have all the info you sent me, I will get to them one by one, so please, pretty please do not stop sending. The tomatoes seeds were great, the plants were like the woods at the back of my house. I had to share with the raccoons, but that is OK, more than plenty enough for all of us.
Monica
I had a problem with my server please do stop sending the email information. Thank you Stanley Scott
love the se articles william
Thank you, over the last two years or so I heard of folks living of the gird but really didn’t understand what that meant. This video shows that it is possible to live comfortably off the grid. Good job and thanks again for sharing.
continue emails
Great informative video====thanks!!
I am like the other guys no time to read. We repaint water towers and most of them are way off somewhere. The next one we go to is 444 miles away. Will get some time off when the weather gets bad. Thanks for the information.
Like the info but sometimes it seems we need to get to the point a little faster
We’ve had a bad streak of rotten luck, two truck accidents. Keep ’em coming Frank, and thanks,
Ken
saving the e-mails reading 1 per month
thanks for sharing soo many great things. BEST, Don Meyer
Thanks for sharing, I will start to get caught up again. Best, Don Meyer
I’ve not even had time to watch the Power4Patriots DVDs I’ve finally received from you and I’m very interested, so please don’t discontinue the emails; I’m busy every day digging out from under a mountain of bills that apparently now are on ‘roids… No extra time but … I’ll be back and will get to read them eventually! I have to work every chance I get. I was wondering why my “survival seed order” didn’t arrive, however… I’ll call and check up on it when I can. Perhaps I made a mistake on my end.
Frank I do read all your emails just not at the time I get them. I have them all in their own folder and read them when I get the time!!! Very interesting just as your CD was interesting! Keep the emails coming!!!
Frank, Don’t stop the emails! I’ve been gardening, canning, drying and storing. Even built a root cellar under the greenhouse! Thanks for the inspiration! Keep ’em coming . . .
Hey Frank, thanks for the video feed. Very informative. Also as with the others, I wil get to reading your e-mails as so as I can.
Hey Frank, thanks for all the e-mails, as with other’s I too will read them as I can. Thanks also for the video feed. Very informative.
No your not bothering me, I just do not always get your mailings thanks to Gmails changes in the way I receive mails. Unfortunately I am missing a lot and yours is not the only mailing that goes missing.
No bother – just too many things going at once. Love your informative emails.
I currently live in a rental home. When I buy my home I am planning on incorporating these principles to get off the grid.
Dear Frank,
I have been filing your emails to view this winter…I am disabled/retired and limited as to what I can do. Spring through Fall but spend almost all of my time in my gardens. I have yet to view your emails but am interested.
I have had a lot of family stuff going on keep the news letters coming
Frank, I may not respond or click all the time, but I do save and catalog the emails for future perusal. Please keep them coming…I really appreciate the information.
I also forgot to mention Frank that our members will buy a complete wind and solar system through our program. We will give them more financial resources to shop and buy things like this to improve quality of life for their own families. Hope to hear from you soon
Frank – keep the info coming. while I haven’t read them all yet – I will. This is info that I feel we will all need at some point. All info is saved. THANKS!
Frank,
Please keep the great videos and information coming. I will watch and read all as time permits… this is my busy season, 18 hour days 6 or seven days per week. I appreciate all the great info that you put out.
Thanks,
Gary G
Great video. Watching in segments due to time constraints. also I do read what you send.
Thanks Frank! It was great to see it all wired together. Great idea using a shed at both the platform for the array, the battery bank and the “guts” of the power system.
thanks for all the info keep it comeing been busy with work and tring to buy a house so I can get a power system, the video was great thanks kriss and sue. Would the wind system work as a water system too?
Do I have to hire a journeyman electrician to look up any of the components of my wind and solar power?I just had something unfortunate happens to me, you know the electric pole in your backyard that has the meter on it. Well mine caught on fire and the whole house lost the neutral it burned up all my TVs. So I called the electric company to come out and fix it. They said that I would have to hire journeyman electrician to fix it but they would supply the new meter for free. Well it cost me $1400 and wasn’t my fault, those meters are locked so I can’t do any preventive maintenance on them so I got left holding the bag. So at this point I would vui for a chipmunk running on a wheel support my electrical needs. My wallet has been violated and I’m so angry I could spirit.
I want is much financial help to get the parts for wind and solar power that I can get. I am a retired radio and television broadcaster so if you need my help in production I be more than happy to help.
Please keep your mailings coming…
I have so much info coming every day, but your stuff is important
I too am saving these emails and plan to digest them thoroughly when I have a bit more time to devote to them.
I finally got my own internet service after moving four times in the past 6 months. Long story, too long to tell it. but will now start to read them. Thanks.
I’m like Matha below, just moved, actually still moving. I read email from phone when possible but do not respond much. please keep the emails coming I have deleated non of them.
Dear Frank,
Please keep your mailings coming. I’ve just gotten bogged down with moving and took much on my plate but will get to it ASAP! Thanks for continuing to provide all the great information.
Thanks for the emails…keep them coming. I have limited d/l capacity but I’m saving them to read later.
Thanks for the video.
We have for years heated our home with a wood burning stove using dead trees off our property. Due to drought last few years that has been no problem, but still no shortage of live trees!
Our electric dryer is never used. With only two of us, a little planning and a clothes line works great! We have a front loaded washer for efficiency.
These are only a few of the things we have practiced , however I know we can do much more and your information has helped and will continue to help us get there.
Thanks!
Frank,
I’ve read most of the items you have sent my way; but I can’t view the videos. I am limited to five [5] GB of data per month for my internet connection. Video, especially streaming video, eats it up real quick.
K. Byron Spencer
Thank you so much for this video! I ordered the Power4Patriots info a while back and have gone through part of it but not all of it yet. My husband and I are getting ready to buy some land and build and we are trying to be as energy independent as possible. I got this e-mail the same day as I received a local catalog highlighting a solar powered home and questions from my mother about solar energy. Confirmation that this is the way we need to go! Thanks Frank for sending the video and for compiling all the info and thanks Kriss and Sue for opening up your home and energy system to those of us trying to live the same way. Your walk through helped me especially since I’m a visual learner and your q&a was very good too. I pray blessings on you, your family and friends and your business!!!
Frank I had knee replacement and mother in hospital, been very busy no time for E mail reading sorry
Aloha Frank & Kriss,
It’s been almost a year since my last post and so many things have changed. I did upgrade my controllers for my battery banks, which has grown to three now. I have a 100 amp controller on one,60 amp controller on the second and a 30 amp controller on the third. I started a new business building wind turbines and I now have 2200 Sq.Ft. shop next to Sea Life Park. I have seven different size wind turbines that I build for residential and mobile communications use, including VAWT’s that I build from parts off of discarded microwave ovens. The more I build wind turbines, the more the ideas I keep coming up with. These wind turbines are sold even before I can finish them,it’s been a wonderful experience. I am hoping to get a bigger condo or house by the end of this year to expand my solar arrays, battery banks, antennas and food supplies for the near future. Thanks for all the wonderful hours of enjoyment I get from your DVD collection I purchased and all the online videos. Keep up the good work!
Hello Frank Yes I don’t read all your videos because I actually own my own remodeling company and have 15 employees at this present stage of the world with the economy I have to work 16 hours a day to make sure that I have at least four weeks worth the work for my guys ahead of them and some of the other videos like the story of your seeds . freezing your seeds I have been doing for a while already and I have applied some of your solar power and some of your drainage videos into some of the things I do everyday for my customers other than that I like your videos and will continue to watch or if you need someone to do installs or something in New England areaa for some things like that you can contact me at this email Thanks Shawn
Have not been able to start with program due to planning a move. Keep sending out pubs to us.
Great video did not know these things took alot of power.Rethinking the way we live have to make some changes for sure.I dont have the money yet but working on it little by little
Hi Frank have been through an operation slowly getting back to speed.
I save your emails and read when i can. Thanks for the video it very
interesting. George
great video !!
Have not yet had time to view everything yet & am only working part time so do not yet have funds to get started. My time has been spent doing have to stuff & looking for more work (which is more work than working, these days, with all the hoops to jump through, thanks to the difficulty the current administration has placed on businesses).
Do keep sending me the info, as I sincerely plan to put it to use asap – just one day at a time taking care of regular responsibilities – rain is not helping!
Thanks so much for being out there & sharing,
Brenda
I would like to have a DVD to show my friends.
All information the video is good for those who have not seen this information before.

Frank,Sorry II have not opened all, I save all to read at a later date,I will get to them.
Hello Frank
You are correct, I haven’t had a chance to read all of your correspondances, however, I have saved everyone for a moment of quite time to go over them.
It has been a bit hectic and difficult recently since loosing my job and trying to get an income, but I’m sure something will come along and I’ll get a breather which will allow me to go over all of the e-mails and become educated.
Thanks for the reminder for your efforts, I’m sure they will make a difference to many people.
sincerely
Lew from Massachussets
i appreciate your emais and web sites jeremy
Frank, have been getting the e-mails but hotmail switched to outlook which always sent them to junk mail and I haft to move them so I can save them. thanks Gary
I do not have the money yet to start my venture but I am glad that there are the tools and info to help when I am ready thank you for your time and I will be watching more.
Frank, I am still around and I do save all e-mails from you. I have limited access to a computer. I live in an area where I can not get Internet Service, I have read some, but you are right, I need to get caught up. Thanks and keep them coming Frank.
Dear Frank, keep the emails coming! I plan to implement them all! I’ve been ill a number of years and haven’t had time to keep up. Just got back in town from another medical treatment and must rest a lot.
Frank: Keep the emails coming. I’m old. Using the computer is a bit rough for me but I’m managing. Downloading computer info has been dificult. Also, sitting thru your vedeos [and other peoples vedeos] is taxing. All I really want is a good schematic, decent instructons, a good picture and the cost.Your heart is right and I think you are doing a positive service. David Sil
Sorry that I have been lax to reply-always ‘one more thing’ to detract the time. I have been saving the emails and will be getting to them soon enough to implement the information into usable items to get off the grid. Thanks for the info in the meantime. Sam in San Diego
Hello. Frank!! I have saved all of the emails you’ve sent me. I watch the videos when I can. Keep ’em coming!!
Hi Frank,
I appreciate your emails and save them to watch when I have free time, which has been non-existent for quite some time due to my work schedule. But please keep them coming and take care there in the Volunteer State!
I have a file that I keep all E-mails from your site. Then read them later when I have time.
Excellent. I’.m going to try to store this video so I can refer to it when the need arises.
Thanks so much.
Frank,
Keep sending me videos.
What do you think about the new Solar Technology by Ronald Ace?
See Miami Herald -Wed, May. 08, 2013. The claims are that he can
recover the heat generated by Solor panels reflection and stire this heat
(energy) for other uses.
Marty
There are alot of great theories out there. I’ll be happy to see if Ronald is able to do anything with his idea – until then, it’s just an idea.
Dear Frank, please keep submitting emails! I have limited access to internet, I don’t own a computer or a smart phone, yet.
Frank,
Sorry Frank I haven’t correspond with you. I save all your e-mails and watch them when I get a free moment. I have internet only at work and can only look at it on my short breaks throughout the day ( which are very few and far between). I do enjoy them so keep them coming.
Thank You,
Pat
Thanks for all the great emails. I have them all saved so that I can get things up and running by Aug 2013..Thanks
Thanks to Frank……
I watched this video last week. I would really like to have a dvd on this video if possible so I can watch this again and take notes on how to do this. Thank you Sandy
Sandy, I do have it for sale:

Hey Frank:
I, too, am a very busy wife and full time worker, gardener and homemaker.
I save all your e-mails till I have time to read them later. They are very important and extremely interesting.
Sorry Frank . I have saved them all! I’m a truck driver and don’t have much time during the week but I see them and go through them as time permits! Thank you for all the info! It really is priceless! !!
I do read some of the emails you send .thank you
useful informative green technology, help me future project,Thanks
Lots of information. Thank you so much.
hay Frank ‘
I have been reading all your mail and put in a file to keep so if I need something I can go and find the answer . I know a lot of this stuff but a lot is new to me and I like that and make referance for later info keep it up as some need it real bad Thanks a lot Gordon
Sorry I have not been in touch, my son died recently so things are pretty messed up as you can imagine. Brian
Frank,
I don’t always have time to read all of your articalls but please don’t stop sending the emails. I run my own business and work about seventy hours a week. I would really like the free video on the solar power. I would like to know how to implement it into my home. Must get back to work so talk to soon. Sandy
Dear Frank thanks for your info and emails .I am an old English guy a home improvement contractor trying to get by in power costly Connecticut and when I get back to my Wife and home in Fort Worth Texas I am going to try out your power 4patriots inthe mean time keep sending the emails even if I do not respond . I am pretty new to a computor so still finding my way with the xxxxx thing
Dear Frank,
I have not read any of your emails because I am frustrated with my life at the moment. Either I am stupid or I just don’t know how to make things work. Sure I would love to incorporate the solar and wind energy into my home but I am just not smart in that area and would have to hire someone to do it. I do not have the money at the time to continually pour into someone else product to make them rich.
I am unemployed and have not been able to find work and I stand a chance of losing my house I just bought so if you want to know why I don’t read my emails is because nothing really matters right now in my moment of crisis. And since I know there isn’t a soul out there that gives a shit about anyone else problems except to make their pocket book fatter then it really doesn’t make me any difference either because I am not going to keep putting everything I have into someone’s business that profits me nothing.
So there you have it Frank, now you know and I am sure I will not hear from you anyway cause as I said my problems aren’t your problems thus I highly doubt any of it makes a doodley damn to you as long as your living it up in your success of your business power for patriots.
Sincerely,
JW Currie
JW. I DO care about you. I hope you will continue to visit my blog and read comments and be inspired to take your life by its horns and wrestle it into a life you love. Stay strong!
Dear Frank, just a note to inform you that I have saved ALL of your emails in a Special folder to go over when I have time to sit and read them. I’ve had a Lot of issues going on with several family members with serious health issues. You are NOT a bother to me and I’m sorry that I have been behind on trying to keep up with your emails.
Besides my primary job, I run a Property Rental business and like any other business, it takes a lot of work to maintain. We are very busy people here! So, Please keep sending your emails, for this will be the time of year for us to get started on those projects that I want to do.
Thank You for putting this information out there for those of us who want to become self reliant from the regular mainstream. Your work and efforts have been Greatly appreciated!
Respectfully,
Karen Garvin
Frank, I have been covered up with things in my life, so have not been able to read everything daily. I do like to get your info., and then read and study it. So, while I get the information, have not put any to use yet. Money is short as my wife doesn’t want to change her lifestyle of driving to town for the noon meal every day, even though she knows ObamaCare has taken over $4.00 per day from us.
Very well done thank you. You take the over whelm out of it. Now if I can get my husband to sit down and watch.
This is cool~
Kriss,
I noticed that during your solar chapter there was another solar array close in the background. Is this a back-up solar system, or belongs to a neighbor?
Thanks, I have been a fan of solar energy for many years and anticipate moving from Florida to the North Carolina mountains soon.
Keep up the good work for those of us, Off-grid rebels, who believe in what you are doing.
Carl
We have been through this before. I am reading the emails. Thanks a lot for sending them. Sometimes I get behind but I read them. Thanks for sending this free video, but I recieved it from you before too. Keep up the good work!
watched the video, it Was good and informative thanks, dave.
Great video. I am already part way there – I have on-grid solar that generates over 50% of our power. I am kind of an unusual survivalist – I am a transplant recepient who can not live without very specialized medication, but I have a family to be concerned about.
Excellent video. I am saving up for a system here in St. George. We get lots of sun. Everyone here ought to be using solar power. My problem is it is initially expensive. I wish there was a price break-down for each part of the system. This would be most helpful. On the other hand, I was not able to totally complete the video. I will tomorrow.
Thanks.
Bill E.
If you are trying to sell me on this project, forget it. My family & I lived in the foot hills of Colorado for 12 1/2 years. Had the local contractor pour the foundations, put up the framing, the windows, doors& the roof while me, my wife, 5 young kids lived in a tent while the water well drillers drilled for water, and I worked in Denver( as a manual machinist) 60 hours a week. I had the water well before the shell was built. My wife and kids finished the house( 2,000 ft) in two years while living in it
That was 7 miles from Evergreen, Colorado.
We did the same thing at Conifer, Colorado ten years later.
My kids have kids of their own, my wife has died, & have a wife who is 24 years younger than me.
I am 90 years young, and I am not going to buy your products.
I LIVE OUT IN COLORADO AS WELL,LIKE THE SIMPLE SET UP,AND SIMPLE SETUP, WHY A SEWER TANK AND NOT A DRAIN FIELD.
Love your information but I am dealing with husband who has Alz. and is ripping wires off and around computers. Just got them replaced. Life is good but the I am looking for help in getting my electric under control.
I read when I can so keep on sending the great information.
Power for Patriots:
You are presenting many power feed sources and they’re all very good. A lot of things are over my head; however, you explain and simplify them quite well and make it much easier to mentally digest.
I like all of the electrical work you’ve done. I think you did a nice job in planning and also put a lot of work into installing all of the electrical equipment and wiring etc.
You’re the epitome of what America needs to become more of, in order to help her survive the economic crisis that’s estimated to hit us any time soon.
God Bless.
Enjoyed the presentation. What do you think about propane refrigerators?
You have not been bothering me, my father just passed away from an illness since January, I will be starting to catch up soon, Thank you for continuing to send newsletters to me. Bill Burgett
I have watched the video. We are already on grid.We are so much farther north and have had a very cloudy winter since last October and many days of minus 30 degree temperature.I think Wind Power would be more suitable for us to persue, since there is a more constant supply of that.
I have watched the video, Was informative.
I am wondering about how you keep a food supply? Freeze or canned or both ??? Do you have a freezer or just the frig. Also, how would we see your comments on the questions that were asked like the ones listed below? Very interested in your projects. What do you and your wife do for income if I may ask?
I am retired and would like to live more efficiently for me and my wife. We live in NW Nebr. Very interesting in what I have seen and read so far. Is the well 110 or 220?
Thanks to You for all the info so far.
Kutch (Kooch)
is your well pump 120 volt or 220 volt
Where can you buy a solar generator? DB
WOW someone finaly took the time to show other people how easy it would be to go off the grid.If everyone would be as shareing as you and your wife think of how wonderful this world would be. Can’t wait until my Power4Patriots manual gets here. May God bless you and your wife.
Really enjoyed an actual person’s lifestyle changes and efforts to do all they can to be more self sufficient.
Great job! your very gifted, did you have help in installing your system?. THANK YOU
Hello kris,
that Video was very helpful. I liked the Informative manner in which you presented it;
Simple but Informative.
kris do you have any suggestions on heating a Swimming Pool?
I would greatly appreciate any Information / suggestions on that.
I live in the city of Toronto, on a large property with plenty of space to instal
Wind & Solar Power gradually.
Thanking you,
Cedric
cedric
i could make the battries also with the right scrap
look I could build an off the grid system for just picking up stuff off the side of the road except the batteries
I’m curious as to why you have a tank water heater? We have had a tankless water heater for years now and love it. We at one time lived off the grid and had that tankless type of water heater. They are great and you don’t have to keep that water hot all the time. CP
I would also like a free DVDof “Living Off the Grid”” as I am out in the boonies on an already undependable grid. Because we have frequent guests and live very far from a grocery store I would like any comments on refrigeration(including freezers) beside using the most efficient ones. Can’t wait to get my platinum power 4 patriots package.
I enjoyed the video; very informative and well done. Kriss speaks very clearly and explains components of the entire system in a manner that most any layperson can comprehend.
My question is about the wind generator in the winter, particularly during snow and/or ice storms. Does the wind turbine freeze up from buildup of snow and ice on the blades?
Also, what about the snow/ice building up on the solar array? I live in Maine where we also get significant amounts of snow (most winters), so this is of great concern to me.
Thanks again for producing these informative videos.
Peter, Check the FAQ – I have a little about cold weather options there:http://www.power4patriots.com/support_technical.php
my patriot power only went aa far as all the tools and equptment needed
was there supposed tobe more ??
Good show Kriss, lets throw in grounding issues in future updates, keep up the good work.
looking at building and have gotten many ideas from your books and now this video.
I rent the home I live in so I cant implement much of this now. I’m looking forward to using these ideas in the future (at my own home) to go off grid. thanks for the education.
Great video,, I am working on my solar day by day but my city will not let me put up a windmill so I am going to sell my house with the solar and move to the country with a natural spring and lake… then put up the wind power and solar… thanx.. G
Hi,
Very nice and one thing about doing this you better have an electrician handy. How did you go about sizeing the system?? size of family?4 bedrooms,3 baths,outbuildings.5 in the family, what comfort items you wanted to use,Tv how many, massagers, hair dryers, microwaves, deep freezers, ect.
What is your suggestions on how to size your panel system and what wind sizes if you went with both.Any info. would be helpful including ball park cost, and what savings over years compaired to the local utility Co. Thanks great Video very interesting.
Art Orofino
Great insight into off the grid living. I’m a little adicted to my microwave. and my coffee. I’ve lived without both but it’s hard for me, I’m thinking a 5000 watt solar and two small turbines but thats me. I loved the tip on the gas dryer and stove. Next house will have both, this one a stove is out. I noticed you didn’t talk about the size of your propane tank. I was guessing about three hundred gallons. Also why not put in a traditional sewage system and drain field? That would seem to make you even less dependent on outside assistance. My last comment is on solar hot water. I was in a rental a number of years ago that had it along with a high efficiency forced air furnace. and my utility bills were extremely low. I was wondering if you’d investigated that? Again I liked the video keep up the good work. I only wish there was a less expensive way to feed the grid, the regular commercial solar seems to be cost prohibitive and way over regulated.
Excellent video. It has convinced me to use solar/wind power. Thank you very much and keep this video on line.
Aloha Kriss,
I live in a condo in Waikiki, Hawaii and I have my entire relay station for amateur radio “Off the Grid” to keep all of my radios going during disaster events such as tsunamis, hurricanes and other events that can knock out our power.
My dual PV system isn’t as advance as yours but it has been a learning process as I have expanded my solar array and added a 250 watt wind generator. I run a 12 volt system with military 102 A/h AGM batteries that I equalize with a New Pulse Technology charger. I also have two inverters, one is a 3500/7000 watt peak inverter and the other is a Tripp Lite 1250 watt inverter. I don’t have to power much in my condo but a couple of new flat screen TV’s and a 6.5 amp frig that came with the condo.
Because of rules and just common sense, I have my solar array on the inside of my windows for my lanai and my wind generator on a stand to catch the daily 15-25 mph tradewinds. For my solar array, I use a couple 100 watt and 40 watt panels.
As I mentioned at the top of this message, I built a dual PV system so that one system can support the other or give me more options when one system gets to low to make transmissions on my radios. Plus I have a UHF repeater connected to the smaller system and that has been working out very well so far. I am lucky in the fact that we get good sunlight for several hours a day, plus I’m on the cooler side of the building,so my system doesn’t get direct sunlight until the afternoon until sunset. This has worked out very well since I added the 100 watt panels and keeps my battery banks fully charged.
So of the obstacles I had to face was many, lack of room, only a couple hours of direct sunlight and HOA rules for my antennas and panels. You can’t bolt anything to the building and you can’t mount the antennas on the outside of the railings for the lanai.
Some of my future goals is to change my battery banks to 6 volt 220 A/h golf cart batteries and get a more efficient charge controller. I am almost finished building another 250 watt wind generator for mobile field use with my radios but I’m also thinking that I might also use it with my PV system at home also.
My question to you is this, you mentioned a couple times in your video about the newer controllers doing two jobs or putting together two of your components into one unit these days. I am hoping to eventually moving into a house someday and I like to think in terms of what I buy is for the long run and long term.
My question is this, if you were to replace that controller and that other Xantrex box just below it, what would you replace it with today? If you can throw a make and model at me, I will take a serious look at it or if you throw a couple of them at me, I’ll let you know what I ended up buying and why.
Here in Hawaii, it seems that we get a tsunami every year since we moved here three years ago and we are overdue for a good hurricane, being “Off the Grid” even though I get my power included with my rent, isn’t such a bad idea for what I do. I built everything here from scratch and have found just as much joy in this as I have with amateur radio. Today, I could not see doing it any other way. Yes,I’m ready for a house somewhere in Honolulu where I can set up a system like yours. I really enjoyed your video and I feel that I will need to watch it again and again to learn more about the kind of system I will build once I use my VA for a house. Thanks for for making the video and showing us your home. A big Mahalo to you!

Hello fellow conservationalists and green technology supporters. I am Brent Myers. I am an 11 year insulation contractor, green technology specialist and former certified RESNET energy rater. I purchased your packet a few months ago and found it inspiring. Not only was it informative, but the step-by-step instructions were so well thought out that just about anyone could apply them. I haven’t constructed any of your systems yet, but intend to. I recommend to all who have an interest to purchase the packet. Whether you want to do your part in helping to preserve the planet, reduce your monthly expences, or just want to construct something of worth; please,by all means give it a go. There was something missing in the video though. There is actually a device that you can hook up to your washing machine that eliminates the need for (HOT WATER, BLEACH, DETERGENT, FABRIC SOFTNER, PRE SORTING, ACTUALLY PRESERVES YOUR CLOTHES AND DOES NOT PRODUCE STATIC AND VERY LITTLE LINT IN THE DRY CYCLE). It is called Laundry Pure. Please feel free to research this amazing piece of technology at http://www.bmhltech.com Thank you for all your hard work and inspiration. You have provided a well-rounded and common sense approach to going green. Keep up the good work…………….God bless………Brent
I would like to have the opportunity also for a copy of this video, as I too live with HUGHES net and not enough downloadable speeds(THANKS HUGHES net for allowing us to never have the previledge of most videos, no matter how much you pay for the higher speeds) I bought the upgraded version of the POWERS FOR PATRIOTS..does that give me this previledge???and/or could you let me know how I can obtain a low (free) cost of this video???
Showering over a bucket, and using the water for the first flush of the day is helpful, as well as the ‘warming’ of the water into a bucket or two in the tub or shower can serve the same purpose or for watering garden of edible vegetables or groundcover to prevent erosion (effective in desert or seasonally dry months). Food waste has seemed to attract rats & vermin unless buried immediately. Using ‘propane’ is still ‘on the grid’, however.
This video is very good and informative, I plan to use your system and will pass this infor on to
others.
Fantastic Video series… I really appreciate the insight and inside look at a working system that brings it all together…
God Bless and Thank You..
Thanks for the very interesting video, I would not have thought how much power we waste on a daily basis.
Thanks again.
I WISH I COULD HAVE WATCHED IT ALL; I’LL TRY AGAIN WHEN THE SYSTEM ISN’T SO BUSY. THANKS,,TONY j. >>>>>>
Very informative, a great reference source and encouragement not just for off-grid, but also for grid-augmented interests. Thanks for this and any other similar resources you can make available!
Awesome video. Nice job and thank you for providing some real hands on and covering all the aspects of off grid living. We need more folks like you and your lovely wife plowing the way and teaching as you go. I am planning on going off the grid outside of Branson, Mo on 25 acres in the mountains. I will be using solar and wind to generate my power as you did. Thanks again and keep up the great work. As a landscape architect/contractor, I was thrilled you touched on the importance of shade trees, deciduous trees and their location. Good job & god bless.
R.B.
LOVE IT – WANT IT – SEND IT
THANKS
Very interesting. Mr home has energy efficient appliances and thermal curtains in the winter. There is lots of oom for lots of other.
improvements.
I have a small cottage on an island off the grid. My needs are much simpler. It is a weekend place.
I have a 70 watt panel and 2×6 volt deep cycle batteries. I have propane appliances which get fuel about 2x a year. I have a wood stove for winter weekends. Also use thermal curtains in the winter.
Vancouver BC is not great for solar and in particular in the winter (lots of rain) so I run my Honda 2,500 generator once on the weekend (no neighbours close by) to heat up my batteries that store solar panel energy. At the same time, I charge a Garrison
battery with 1800 watts which takes 3 hours for a full charge. I only use low draw lights, have a hot water demand system which is the most efficient system and keep my septic system which is pumped to a field, in good order with consistent bacteria enhancement.
I have a battery run piano. My music is on my iphone which takes almost no power from my garrison. The garrison is for computer use almost exclusively. No heat generating appliances. Again i hope to take more advantage of ways to reduce my electrical use at home.
Good job ! Over my head in lots of places but seeing it all and your explanations proves it’s doable.
Thanks for the video. I had almost forgotten about it. Don’t know if I will ever carry it out to the extent you have, but again, seeing ‘ it ‘in person’ helps a lot.
Best regards,

Just finshed my wind turbine. Now looking to build solor panels. This video will help me a LOT. It just pumps me up. Thank you for posting it. Yes I am a POWER4PATRIOTS Person. More Power to People.
I like the whole idea. I have solar panel, but am being robbed blind by the company that installed the panels, REC & SunRun, who are forcing me to pay for the kilowatt hours the system generates, then I have to pay PG&E a small monthly fee, then a roundup yearly fee of $1,600, this year. I want to get from under the contract with them and produce my own system of solar & wind. I need advice.
Also, with the new wind mills, are there more efficient windmills that the one shown?
Thank you for the time. Now to find the products we need, cost and where to find them.
I hope more people will get behind this and get from under the thumb of the energy thieves.
love the video please send it so could aide it to my other videos of you. I love your batter hookups and the wiring. Iam one of the POWER4PATRIOTS. Yours Hector Rodriguez.
I received and viewed a small portion of the video I ordered. I have not begun to build a system yet. I’ve had a lot of other things to do.
Sounds interesting
Hey:
We have dial up and it takes forever to down load a video. We would like to receive a DVD of the video, so we might get to watch it.
I would love to have/watch the video. But won’t have time over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the offer. I will just have to catch up on it later.
We currenty have (4) 130W kyrocea panels and (4) 60W homemade panels. I now can see that we have made a few mistakes wiring ours in parallel to maintain 12V and now after watching the video we really need to get an MPPT controller and much better inverter. Wow, I am sure we don’t have enough $$ to have as nice of a setup as this, but it is something to work towards having. Even though we may never be entirely Off-Grid ; we can aid our power usage with grid-tie.Thanks for this informative video.
Why don’t he recycle his water to save pump outs n pump use age I have a system that reuses shower sink n washing machine n dishwasher water u have to run new plumbing but so worth it
I never did see him address one real safety hazard! Charging acid filled batteries produces Hydrogen gas, Highly flamable! He never visited exhausting the fumes, nor the corrosiveness of those fumes, plus, NOT smoking near the battery bank!!!
Just an observation!!!
I’m curious that all of a sudden I’m getting a video? I purchased power for patriots back in April, and this is the first follow-up video that I have ever recieved!
I was wondering about the solar array. Why not a 12 volt system into a 12 volt battery bank in series with 10, 12 Volt D.C. car batteries in series, which gives you 120 volts dc, then run it through an inverter and you have 120 V A.C.?
Navy Trained, Just wondering? How about High output LED lights?
So how do I get a copy of this free video? Does it come as a DVD?
Not yet, but I’m working on putting it together. Keep an eye out for the announcement.
How can I save this on my computer, please? I need to have the dvd available to me to refer to.
Thank you.
I purchased your course and found a lot of good information. I do have one question.
The advertisement for your manuals mentions the advantage of building your own solar panels then saving money by feeding excess power back into the grid. In your manual you warn that you cannot connect homemade solar panels to the grid unless they are UL (underwriters laboratories) approved. How do we get our homemade solar panels UL approved? Thank you.
How i get he vedio
Frank, it seems not a free gift but a temporary preview. Gift means I get to keep it. Thanks.
the video had some good info, though in my opinion..to much run on…as for the LP he uses..were i live the THE BTU’S of propane is more $$ then elect……and let’s be honest…the cost of all the off grid equipment…..how long does it take to even out….1 yr…..2….or 10…..my elect bill is 35 summer and 50 winter…(HOT TUB ) WORTH EVERY BIT OF 15 $ A MONTH…my point is this….for 1 guy its ….go all the way!!!!!!…for another…..go cut all your own fire wood so your heating system never comes on…….what ever it is one thing is for sure…..to lower your overhead…..don’t be wasteful …….that is a state of mindfulness……..
How do I save this video to my P4P folder?
thanks,
Jon
Hi, When do you think you will be able to sell Kriss”s video on solor and wind that I just saw. I w ould like to send it to my son. Wonderful video. Well done Thanks Mike Kirsch
I have tried and tried to download video but will not come up!
Awesome video we have a cabin @ 5340 elevation and are looking forward to installing your system. I purchased your entire package, and looking forward to have AC power soon!
I am in a wheelchair, paralyzed from my neck down, and still drive a big 4×4 van and have a new electric Rough Roller with a suspension, “Not pictured on website Yet” but it is Awesome!
Thanks Again,
Many Blessings,
Johnny
Can someone out there tell me how to save this video to my computer so that I can watch and listen to it after my computer’s sound system is restored? At present I have NO sound at all but have not had the money to get it restored. Thanks!
Enjoyed your fine tour through your home.
I have been working on the restoration of a house in Grundy County Missour located in Crowder Park. It was built in 1834 by a Dr./Gen. Preston Thompson. He befriended the Indians in the area, served them medically and they told him where to build his hoome out of the flood plain. Last year we had the 18 inch brick walls all fixed from sever cracks and this past week we put a new roof on it. For more information go to friendsofthethompsonhouse.com.
We envision the need for solar or wind energy to provide electric power as we are a long way from the public grid to provide power.
Your story is an encouragement for our project.
Video stream is fragmented with frequent loading interruptions during viewing. I would like a DVD or CD copy when available if it is a free option. From what I have seen so far looks very informative and viable to respond to catastrophic power interruptions. Is the set up robust in the worst case scenario?
I enjoyed the video very much. One question, as a further (though perhaps minor) power savings
have you considered 110V LED lamps? I’ve switched all my lights over LEDs. Two or three 7 watt
lamps light most rooms adequately. A 7 watt lamp is roughly the equivalent of a 20 or 25 watt compact fluorescent. It does take a little trial and error to find the right light spectrum an configuration you need. You’ll find plenty of good options at $5 and up on Ebay.
REALLY A INTERESTING VIDEO. SIMPLE YET INFORMATIVE.
Thanks for sharing this, I know you put a lot of effort into this and it is greatly appreciated. I have never been good with following diagrams or schematics and you have provided a great amount of information for us to learn from.
Very informative. Please keep it on line. I took physics for electricity in college but I will have to go back and get some electrical classes at the community college level just to be able to understand and decide on my options ……..this video is a real eye opener. Thank you for seding it to us.
Good Day Frank & P4P team,
Greeting from South Africa! I just wanted to Thank you for not only this video, and the other material I purchased previously. You have a great vision, and the quality of your material is superb. I can only imagine how much work has gone into making all of this possible.
The dedication of your team will have impacts far beyond the borders of the USA, and as a young person I will certainly use the tools and knowledge available from your site and resources. Kudos to Kriss and his wife, congrads on a job well done, and bless you both!
Excellent video. Very well done. I’m sure they are aware that burning wood in there stove does cause some pollution. I believe he made one mistake when describing the charging phases of the batteries. Float charging is the last phase of the charging cycle.
I live in California and have added a solar system to our roof. Itis tied into thegrid and pumps energy back into the grid thus reducing our cost. I also look for ways to conserve energy, especially when we are on a trip, by turning off things with power strips.
Please send me a copy of your “off the grid” video [DVD/videoCD]:

No wonder this is a free video, it was so boring I started to fall asleep and had to turn it off. It also ranks as one of the most creepy videos with the close ups of his eyeballs. Since I could not watch the whole thing (snorefest) I am not sure if the closeups lasted all throught the video, but I hope not.
This is a good tell it like it is video. I live in Southwestern West Virginia and I pay only 10 cents a kilowatt hour. I know it won’t last forever but solar is just too expensive for me at this moment. The batteries are biggest expense.
As for the solar panels I’m waiting till this company brings this product to the market.
http://v3solar.com/
The product will make solar worthwhile.
Hi Kriss,
An interesting video.
I live in Cyprus in the Mediterranean and we have wall-to-wall sunshine most of the year. We also have the highest electricity charges in Europe since the Government managed to blow up the largest power station on the Island, so any way I can cut the electric bill is worth considering.
My hot water is all solar provided and I store 800 litres at around 60oC. It is a closed system and a small solar powered pump provides the circulation straight off a 12v x 10W PV panel. The only problem I have had with that is when the sun is partially obscured and the heat is still in the sky. Then the pump slows down and the manifold temperature rockets to 150oC+ which exceeds the temp. limit on the pump so it shuts down. I cured it with a contact temp switch that turns on a mains powered 40w pump in series with the solar pump, until the temp drops again to the normal 70-80oC on the manifold.
My largest constant electrical devices are a small (100w) chest freezer and a large fridge/freezer similar to yours (200w). The voltage here is 220/240V 50 Hz and I want to build a semi-stand alone supply for these two items and at the same time have an adjacent power socket off the grid, just in case we lose the sun for a few days.
Given the 240V supply and a continuous 300w load (although they are only on for say 50% of the time):
• How many panels do I need at say 12V to provide enough for the 300w load.
• What type/size control unit and inverter do I need?
• Where can I buy the wafers I need to build the panels and what are the best MONO or MULTI crystaline? I have the P4P video set so I am ok with building them but I am having difficulty sourcing the wafers.
Your help would be appreciated.
Alan Wall – Souni, Cyprus
If you can build and add on relatively inexpensive solar panels, why not add a few more panels and batteries for a bit of a buffer?
I saw a few things to make my system more efficient when I get it completed.
This was a very excellent video. It brought a lot of information in a different way from text. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work
Excellent, thank you very much.
Excellent, informative, and more importantly lacking the usual hype! A down to earth, realistic “nuts and bolts” presentation. I have been researching “living off the grid” for some time and this gave me an understandable quantification of going from start to finish without (as my wife calls it) Analysis Paralysis. Thank you!!
Great video Kriss & Thanks!
We have a small cottage in Texas that’s AC & DC with a frugal solar energy system. We’re on a hill so the addition of wind generator system is on our list. We use rainwater collection, a composting toilet system and a gray water system that really helps for a more synergistic effect. Propane plays a big part in our energy system as well, although for a back-up I’m going to be experimenting with an HHO system added to my gas powered generator, which should reduce the fuel consumption by over 80%. We presently use a hoop house to grow food, another for chickens and will build one more for rabbits soon.
Thanks again for posting,
Mark
Amazing! Thank you for making this available to us!
Excellent video. Very well done. It makes me want to expand my small system Thanks for sharing it!
cannot get the video to play
Good video. I’d like to know the cost of the system shown. My power consumption is equal to his.
Fantastic !!!
My thanks to you and Sue for your contribution to furthering the knowledge of seeking options. !!!!
Either from choice or necessity you have made great strides that I am sure many people like myself envies you. Like you, self-sufficiency and responsibility is making the most of what you have, a perfect example is living ‘off the grid’…
You presented with clarity and heart !
