Obama’s spying campaign hits a roadblock.
I can think of very little good news that has come out since a certain political party moved into the White House in January 2009, but something positive might actually be brewing right now.
CNN recently reported that a federal judge in Washington, D.C., declared that the U.S. government’s collection of domestic phone records is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Richard Leon says that the National Security Agency’s bulk collection of metadata, which includes the phone records of Americans that were recorded without any suspicion of wrongdoing, violates privacy rights.
Every ounce of me wants to scream out, “Duh!” but I’ll refrain.
I loved this judge’s statement, which hits the nail on the head. “I cannot imagine a more ‘indiscriminate’ and ‘arbitrary invasion’ than this systematic and high-tech collection and retention of personal data on virtually every citizen for purposes of querying and analyzing it without prior judicial approval. Surely, such a program infringes on ‘that degree of privacy’ that the Founders enshrined in the Fourth Amendment.”
Not surprisingly, Judge Leon was appointed by former President George W. Bush, not by current President Barack Obama.
Leon added that the government “does not cite a single instance in which analysis of the NSA’s bulk metadata collection actually stopped an imminent attack, or otherwise aided the government in achieving any objective that was time sensitive in nature.”
Of course, the government will appeal the ruling, so it will probably be up to Congress to pass legislation that will force the NSA to focus on terrorists and spies, not innocent Americans. But will the support be there for Congress to accomplish this?
Most Americans – and an increasing number of their politicians – are opposed to the indiscriminate recording of phone calls and emails, but the president is all for it. Who do you think will win this legal battle?
My!My!My! So the Bush Thugs finally did something that warrants a comment of patriotism from one of their ‘chosen’ ones. But, look at the loss of freedoms we received from them under the guise of ‘security’. We haven’t had a decent REAL President in decades and the Bush’s are no exception. They tore down their own Party and took away more freedoms than any other President in history.

How Does Obama have the right to give illegals Lawyers when our service men can’t get lawyers. They should get a lawyer when filing any claim against the V A system, because the paper work is in strict form and a everyday person can not understand what they are asking. Its is Obama’s fault for not having discontinued these operations. It is his fault for keep the same policies that the previous administration put in place. It is his fault for the continuation for the secret courts and the war on the American people. They probably threatened him if he did not cooperated and do as he was told. After all he is just a puppet on a string. The question is who is pulling those strings?

This is certainly NOT the government OR Constitution which I was taught in school. Of course, I’m a senior citizen now, and thoroughly expect to be euthenised when I age of an age that they can just stick a needle in me without telling me what it is.

Yes he is an accountant and he authors books along with his investment news letter but he only goes there after you have been able to view his video in it’s entirety. I think you will be able to understand how critical our situation is as a nation after you spend a few minutes watching what he has to say.
I am not very easily convinced of things that I cannot actually witness see or touch for myself but I had no problem being convinced that this man was touching upon the truth, because I already felt our government, since we established the FED, has been building with sand, including the foundation! Do you really think this will change anything? Right now there is a case, where the VA has taken property deeded to them, solely for the care and housing of disabled veterans, in West Los Angeles, and the VA has been allowing groups that have nothing to do with the veterans to use the land, and at the same time has prevented the veterans from using the land. There is a court order for them to cease and desist their actions, but not only is the VA ignoring the order but is also appealing the order, with the DOJ representing them. Why is the government wasting tax payer money to screw the vets again? We need as many people as possible to step up and call your reps requesting they demand the DOJ to drop the appeal and demand the VA to stop their misappropriation of the property!
It doesn’t matter if the court told them to stop or not, because they won’t. Even if the House puts a halt to the spying Harry Reid won’t even bring it to the floor. On the off chance Reid takes a vote and it passes Obama won’t sign it he will just let it sit on his desk til it stales. I thin that is called pocketing the bill.
Until we get rid of Reid and Obama and Polosi and Boehner and get more Ted Cruz’z, Mike Lee’s, Rand Paul’s, Louie Gohmert’s Trey Gowdy’s, and a few more we will be taken for a ride and the constitution will be denigrated.

Yep… what I’ve been saying all along. Most people don’t realize that it doesn’t do any good to vote. Once a politician is installed, he is threatened harm to himself or family or even death (mysteriously, of course) if he doesn’t do EXACTLY what the elite cabal wants done. The only way to have an effect is to hunt down the cabal and get rid of them, even if it takes stealth vigilante. No other way will work. Votes don’t count. And even if they did, you’d still have the same problem.

Two desktops and two laptops all have been hacked into and operating systems under ?? control. I don’t have admin rights. I have seen evidence my email messages have been replaced. NSA is collecting emails so which ones do they assign as mine, e.g., the original or the replacement messages that I don’t even know what the ‘delivered’ contents have been?

Mike pretty well said it. We cannot trust but a hand full of today’s politicians. I recently read a non-partisan study regarding DC politicians. Since WWII virtually all (that are not wealthy in the first pace) become millionaires by the end of their first term. That’s why I support term limits … and they don’t!
We really need to clean out all the “professional” career politicians and replace them with men and women that are not whores to the power brokers and actually BELIEVE in the Constitution they have sworn to defend!

This is in regards to the “Patriot privacy Kit” offered on bates website. Yes we need to protect ourselves. In the bottom of Chris’s email he says we need to protect ourselves “without fear of retribution from Obama’s minions”. We should keep in mind that the patriot Act was created under Bush. I hear the far right complaining about Obama in the same way I was complaining about Bush when his regime was in power. Our Constitution was being eroded under Bush and continues today. Why do some far right people only think that the democrats are abusing their power but refuse to acknowledge that the same abuse is being conducted by the right. it makes no difference who is in power–republican or Democrat–they are all corrupt. We have an oligarchy. Snowden is a patriot. Freedom knows no boundaries or political ideology. Even for a moderate like me.

Agreed, Mike. Our government won’t be able to right itself until both Democrats and Republicans are ousted. We need to have Green Party and Libertarians for our 2-party system, that is if we can ever get Dems and Repubs to stop passing laws that illegally prevents other parties from even getting on the ballot!
That’s not going to do any good. Votes don’t count. And even if they did, you’d still have the problem of the elite cabal threatening harm or death to them and/or to their families if they don’t do as they are told by the cabal. Seriously, I kid you not. This has happened more than you know. That’s one of the reasons why you scratch your head sometimes when you see a politician reneg on a promise or do a 180 on an issue.
