Stolen seed secrets lead to FBI arrests.
Seeds may be tiny, but they are very important. From small seeds can sprout huge pumpkins, tall sunflowers and even gigantic trees.
Unfortunately, seed technology has become big, too, as in big business. The makers of genetically modified seeds produce and sell mass quantities of seeds that result in hybrid plants loaded with chemicals. With no labeling required, there’s a good chance that many of us are eating GMO foods everyday.
There’s a great deal of money to be made in producing GMO seeds that can pass along drought- and pest-resistant traits to other seeds that will be grown and harvested. And whenever there’s a lot of money involved, there will also be espionage, theft and arrests.
Recently it was revealed that a number of Chinese men allegedly traveled across the Midwest to steal $30-40 million in seed technology from Monsanto and DuPont Pioneer.
China has been unable to produce enough corn for its people, and so it has acquired the crop in trade from other countries including the United States. The U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts that China will soon become the world’s largest importer of corn.
The men were allegedly stealing trade secrets in order to help reduce the country’s reliance on other nations for this crop. Apparently the men, whose stolen secrets and seeds were confiscated by the FBI before they could leave the country, used aliases to tour DuPont Pioneer’s headquarters and Monsanto’s research facilities in Iowa. On several occasions they were spotted on their hands and knees in Midwest cornfields.
Here’s a secret that I wish all makers of GMO foods would steal. Only vegetable plants grown from open-pollinated, non-hybrid, non-genetically modified, heirloom seeds are pure. Those foods will be nutritious, giving people’s bodies what they need to thrive.
Do you try to avoid eating GMO foods? If so, where do you buy your food and how do you determine whether it has been produced from heirloom seeds? I’d love to hear from you about this.

Has anyone found best way to save non – GMO seeds for planting next year and there after ?? In a freezer, — not good — if no power or freezer fails all will be gone, been there done that — in a jar — well have not tried that yet but moisture may be a problem. Loosely poured on a towel, rolled up stored on shelf could be but bugs may get them. We are looking at maybe for tomatoes, a drop for flour, water mixed like paste drop a seed in space about 3″ on 2″ wide kitchen paper towel, let dry then rollup and place in plastic zip lock bag or a vacuum sealing bag. Any one tried this ??
You can make little sachet packets of powdered milk to (3-4 layers of kleenex around a big spoon of powdered milk, tied off) and place those in your vacuum bag or mason jar to help absorb moisture. If you want to store seeds for more than a year, though, I recommend professional packaging like: http://www.survivalseeds4patriots.com
Can we be sure we are not eating GMO foods ?? I do not think so unless you eat only what you grow from non-GMO seeds.
— No way for any thing grown inside or outside to be ORGANIC. There was a RoundUp test done on 3 fields 250 miles apart. Up to 15 miles down wind there were RoundUp ready weeds for 2 years after test.
— If any plane or truck passes by any planted land spraying anything, in can not be organic grown products. You can have organic inspectors approve you for growing organic stuff but if you do not pay $3k to $5k you will not be allowed to sell as organic and this organic thing just says ” those chemical levels are below what organic inspector will allow “.
— We should all be calling our employees ” US Congress ” telling them to put GMO products on labels of our foods. Many of the chemicals they are putting in our foods are causing weight gains.
This year, 93% of ALL corn was GMO. SO, if you eat meat, the cattle, hogs, chickens, turkeys, were all fed GMO corn in their feed. Unless, of course, you’re willing and able to pay the price of organic meat, you are eating GMO corn and soy. Last time I checked, whole organic CHICKEN at Whole Foods was $6.99 a pound and up. So, $30 for a CHICKEN.
My solution is to have a flock of chickens fed organic soy-free feed (because around 85% of the organic soy sold in this country comes from CHINA….the same country that poisoned their children and our pets, and miserably failed a cursory USDA organic standards inspection 5 years after they were supposed to be up to standard) but I digress…so we have organic eggs and the roos were butchered for meat in the freezer. We’re looking at getting a couple hogs in the spring so we’ll have organic pork. Around here you can buy grass fed organic beef for $1200 a half includes butchering, but haven’t been able to afford it but remains a goal. We try to sell the excess eggs $5 a dozen but only have a few customers willing to pay for the difference in taste and feed (which is more expensive than regular non organic). I’ve checked into getting 20 roaster-broiler chicks that will be ready for harvest in 8-10 weeks, cost will be roughly $20 a bird and haven’t had any takers at that price. So, we grew a LOT of potatoes and onions for the root cellar, corn and beans for the freezer, peppers, eggplant and tomatoes and summer and winter squash. Sold some at the local quick market (owned by a friend of ours who gets free produce in exchange) to help with seed cost. We have a short growing season so can’t always grow heirlooms, usually buy seed from Irish Eyes, Territorial, Potato Garden, Victory, Baker Creek, and bought beautiful seed garlic this year from Keene Organics. We’ve found Provider and Royal Burgundy green beans do well for us, as well as Quickie corn an F-1 normal hybrid supposed to yield in 67 days but usually takes 75 days for us. Streambank Gardens, The Natural Gardening Co, and A Tasteful Garden have the best starts. Fedco catalog is a wealth of information and good prices, free shipping on orders over $30! Jim Gerritsen grows beautiful seed and table potatoes, was one of the leads in Farmers vs Monsanto, but he’s on the east coast and I’m on the west, so shipping becomes costly. I’m not buying Pepsi, Coke, and many other products BECAUSE THEY ARE IN CAHOOTS WITH MONSANTO AND DUMPING MILLIONS IN THE CAMPAIGN TO DEFEAT GMO LABELING IN OREGON AND COLORADO. Keep getting the word out Frank! Thanks for all you do to keep us informed.
In truth, when I purchase any fruits and vegetables from the store, I am taking a chance that the food is safe to consume. Whether it is a GMO product or doused with one or more chemicals to treat or preserve said vegetable, I just don’t know. I am told by a lot of sources that the food is safe to eat; but, I must consider the source(s). After all, they want me to purchase their products with my hard earned money.
I don’t know how safe the food really is because they don’t tell me what they have done to the food. A conglomerate can get its fruits and vegetables from many sources from almost anywhere in the country or world and there wouldn’t be a written record how it was grown or treated. If they did have a record as to how they grew the fruits or vegetables it would be overwhelming to disclose it the general public.
So your question to me is “Do I avoid eating GMO products?” Yes, I do. Next, you asked me, “Where do I buy my food and how do I determine whether it has been produced from heirloom seeds? Well, I don’t know if the food is from heirloom seeds. What I do purchase from the store is an offset of foods from what I grow in my own back yard. I just started this year. I had a bumper crop of cucumbers, pickling and salad cucumbers. What my wife didn’t eat I pickled. I had hamburger pickles, fermented pickles, bread and butter pickles, sweet pickles, relish and the list goes on. The same goes for the peppers.
I also grew tomatoes, green beans, pumpkins, ginger. mint, basil, onions, carrots, potatoes, turnips, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, cayenne and ghost peppers. I like the heat. This is in addition to my fruit trees. It may sound that I have a large property, but, I don’t.
So now I am looking to plant some winter vegetables for the up and coming Spring. I have Frank Bates to thank for my vegetable garden because I listened to what he had to say. I saw the handwriting on the wall. I decided to do something about it, instead of 90% of the people that will just sit there as a spectator to their own funeral.
When I put food on the table for my family, I like to know how natural this food really is. I can either put my faith and trust into a system that lies to me on a regular basis or I can put my trust and faith into my garden, the sweat of my brow, and my own hard work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING US THE WARNINGS AND HELPING US BECOME AS INDEPENDENT AS POSSIBLE IN THESE LAST DAYS.
It is imposible to avoid GMO’s when there is no regulation requiring labels informing people they are in the foods we buy.
I INTEND TO GROW BEANS OF VARIOUS KINDS AND THEN SPROUT THEM AS MY EMERGENCY FOOD SOURCE. TO SPEED UP THINGS, I WILL BUY BEAN SPROUTS THE NEST TIME I SEE THEM IN A GROCERY STORE AND THEN PLANT THEM
This is an arena that I have worked in for over 25 years. Here in Canada 95% of the Canola is grown from GMO’S. The roundup ready canola is ruining our farmers land as the roundup is Chelating (tying up)our essential minerals that help to produce high quality food. Round Up is registered as an anti-biotic which is proving to kill a lot of our micro-organisms in our soil that are needed to convert food sources to the plants we eat from. GMO’s have been proven in numerous studies to develop tumors in those that consume. The lie that we need GMO’S to feed the world is continually spread by big business. It’s not to feed the world it is to line the pockets of the very rich. Sadly there are 21,000 people who die from starvation daily. The food is here, it’s the fair distribution of it that is being controlled by the large Corporations that make it appear we are short on food. When it comes to the use of GMO’s we the people have the ultimate control in it’s use. If we don’t buy it, it will disappear. If we do buy it, humanity is in for a large depopulation. Please pass this on to your friends and relatives. If we don’t stop the madness, our God will!
I & most others can go with a lot less food- as starving people around the planet might make noise or trouble at first, but then the long weakness begins and they are silently mourned by family & lifelong communities around them. It’s a quiet mourning because babies, elderly & the most strong young adults just don’t have the strength to cry or make trouble for the well fed ones who watch from their higher, better place. Maybe they think there’s no room left & we’ll be better off, but likely it is pure evil that want’s every bit for themselves- this evil doesn’t even think to pray or beg God to help. They are convinced God isn’t needed or more likely these well fed watchers accept that their huge power & unimaginable wealth has made them gods, & they think their children will be safe with the planet they stole from humanity. They believe some of us will make good slaves, but the rest must die before the secrets of ‘their paid for’ technology is ever shared. On a lonely day, their social network will only alert a drone to their location. We here in America have watched & caused much, but still people look to our freedoms that came from our great Constitution & Bill of Rights, & expect that God will send us out to help & so many times we have raised a right hand & pledged a life to protect & defend. Now like in earlier days, God will mysteriously intervene & wealth will become what it was meant to be: a great feeling of humanities’ need & right for compassion & fairness. The tokens of the greedy will not buy them much, & their extinction awaits. I take no delight in starving China- they have never known freedom or human rights. When greed & selfishness thrive, we are all at risk, & that is the target now! While we gather, protect & risk so much collecting our Heirloom Seeds, please remember the humble around us, who may be hungry already.
I only order heirloom untreated open-pollinated seeds from Bountiful Gardens catalog. I highly recommend this source having personally ordered from them. Hope this helps.
Let the Chinese have the GMO seeds. Many sites have proven Gmos are bad for human consumption. Gmos have hit the market without complete animal testing and the FDA approved them for human consumption. The FDA, another gov org run by the powers in office…unfortunately in some articles I have read the Chinese have turned away millions of tons of GMO corn…
Have you noticed that China is selling the U.S. seeds claiming that they are heirloom seeds? We sold these seeds to them and now they are selling them back to us. How stupid are we for buying them back?
I also want to find seed without GMO
