Anticipating the War on the EPA
As many people in this country have become painfully aware during the Obama Administration years, the Environmental Protection Agency has done everything in its power to destroy the coal industry. With that destruction has come the loss of jobs and higher energy costs for the average U.S. citizen.
Now it looks like these unelected officials are flexing their muscles and trying to expand their influence. They want to extend their regulatory power over streams and wetlands in the United States. The Clean Water Act (which sounds a lot nicer than it is) has already hurt states that have not met the EPA’s tough standards regarding lakes and rivers. Now they’re trying to grip streams and wetlands in their greedy fists. This would even include
streams that only show up after heavy rainfalls.
Republicans have been calling the control-freak EPA’s latest mission “a massive land grab.” The Chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, Lamar Smith of Texas, calls it an effort to “control a huge amount of private property across the country.” Now that they have the majority in the Senate, Republicans are looking for ways to battle against it.
For quite some time now it has appeared that the coal industry will die a slow death, but with Mitch McConnell of Kentucky becoming the Senate Majority leader, maybe there is hope after all. He recently commented about new regulations against coal-powered plants by saying, “My first obligation is to protect my people, who are hurting as the result of what this administration is doing. I’m going to do any and everything I can to stop it.”
Do you believe Republicans should fight against new and stricter EPA regulations, or do you think it’s a losing battle? I’d like to hear from you about this.

Im with you Alexandra, we need to do everything we can to preserve the environment for future generations…it may cost us more now, but its the only way to a better, breathable environment….The earth is
a gift given to us to live in comfortably and unselfishly as the gift giver (the good Lord)
intended….
Fire the EPA and jail the criminals that run the EPA.
Just another corrupt governmental agency…they are supposed to protect the people and the environment and do neither. Too much gov’t regulations..get rid of all these 3 letter agencies..all lowlife scumbags
Don’t ever trust anything that Mitch McConnell says.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Many of the government agencies don’t report to any authority other than the political whims of the party in power, in this case Obama. I am directly impacted by the EPA since my engineering job depends on projects coming from utilities, the projects are drying up and I need to pay my bills like everybody else.
Need to disband the EPA.
THE EPA AGAIN??? Boy, just when you thought the madness has ended, it rear its ugly head again to bite “us” all in the butt again.
We as a country need an agency like the EPA to help keep America clean from the pollution, the greed and irresponsible corporate machines. But when is to much protection just to much? It is one thing to look after the best interest of the country; it is another to put the very companies out of business because of the nature of their business.
For example, the EPA put the last lead foundry out of business because of the nature of the heavy metal, lead. Their idea and mandate is to let other countries pollute their lands and waterways all the while keeping our soil, water and air pollution free. Sounds all warm and fuzzy until you see the details involved, plus once you realize that the EPA isn’t really working for the citizens but against them.
The EPA is a single minded agency that has no compunction to squash the average citizen or small company under its massive weight of “Red Tape.” The only thing that will save the day is political clout or public outcry to shed an unwanted attention upon the agency. Of course there is always the common “Agency scandal” that will throw cold water on the dealings of the EPA; until the general public loses interest and the act is soon forgotten, once again.
What is needed is a transparency agenda on a State by State basis. Something that the average citizen can see and hear and have final say into the matter. (We don’t need meetings where the citizen has a right to say something for only 2 minutes before moving onto the next person. Where your voice carries no weight and falls on deaf ears. You are better off yelling into the wind for as much as it will do you.
An oversight committee to make sure that all the dealings of the EPA, Corporate America and the citizen of this country and met and compromised. (The EPA depends on the courts to issue any ruling) They know that they can bury almost anybody or corporation in legal bills because the EPA has the power of the Attorney General and the Justice Department. If we changed the was things are done such as reducing the funding to the EPA when the courts rule against them; we may find that the EPA will behave in a more prudent and justifiable way towards the citizens and corporate America. An oversight committee will also set the priorities and dictate the terms and conditions for the EPA to conduct its day to day business. This action is done in the DOD, Department of Defense.
The biggest danger the EPA poses is the Executive Order that a President may issue on their behave. There is always a twist of the screw when dealing with Government agencies. We are better off tweaking the EPA rather than trying to re-invent the wheel. We just got to make sure that the people running the agency doesn’t get to big for their britches.
Renewable resources are our future. They are unlimited. Power from the sun and wind is our children’s future. Coal, uranium, oil will one day run out. They are incredibly polluting. Yes, the planet is in a warming cycle. If your house was burning down would you throw gasoline on it? If our country does not have an environmental regulating agency multi nationals will destroy our country for a quick buck and leave. They don’t care about the air we breath or the water we drink. Wake up people. I do agree the agency could be run better.
Me, too, Alexandra! I agree the agency could be better run, but to do away with it completely is inviting companies such as DuPont, Koch, Firestone, and Dow to do with our lands and resources whatever they like and no regard to anything other than profit. Coal is dead, as well it should be now that so many safer alternatives are readily available. I understand that it very hard to retrain a complete segment of our society and many will suffer. They will suffer even if we do away with the EPA.
The world is changing and many, myself included, will be left behind in areas of current concern. We cannot put toothpaste back into the tube; these jobs are gone or going and so is the way of life that went with them. We can look forward to the future and do our part to retrain and educate those who will come after us. We must do this to survive as a nation. We are already far behind much of the world because of entrenched policies and politicians.
We need to start putting the future first because it is not possible to relive the past, no matter how comfortable and safe it seemed.
A better functioning EPA is necessary to do this; corporations and individuals are not up to the task.
fight them – get rid of them, the IRS & the DOE they are ruining this country & are tying the farmers hands
Do you even know what these agencies do?
Every time when a Department of the government is given; They start becoming corrupt. They just want more and more power for their regime.
Every time when a Department of the government is given to much power; They start becoming corrupt. They just want more and more power for their regime.
Care needs to be taken but not to the extent that ruins our economy, or takes away a land owners privileges.
Search for UN NWO Agenda 21 Map of the US… you will see there is a lot of the nation the UN NWO Marxist Cabal needs to steal from land owners. Drought caused by blowing up all the upstream dams, Fires started by ACORN paid thugs & eminent domain are their tools… So of course they can’t allow land owners to build a pond or use a creek. It defeats their purpose.
Hey congress stop the funding and end the problem.
The leadership of both parties drank the NWO Marxist kool aid & are in the process of handing out America’s assets to whomever the Cabal deems appropriate.
Yes, get rid of the money hungery grabbers. They are assuming to much power over the people in their sneaky power grabbing schemes.
Yes, the Republicans should definitely do something to stop this! However, I have little faith they will. Every opportunity they’ve had to combat Obama’s abuses they have given in. The budget, the repeal of obamacare, and the absolute failure on immigration are all examples. The Republicans need new leadership,or it is time for us libertarian leaning conservatives to find a new party.
John Boehner and Mitch McConnell are not helping anyone. They are doing whatever the Obama administration wants. I can only hope that the rest of the Republicans stand up for what is right.
First off, ban the EPA. Clowns—ever one of them. Secondly, ALL forms of energy should be on the table. If you receive you electric power from coal or some other energy source–that you don’t like–either move OR simply disconnect your home from that electricity–AND YOU & YOUR FAMILY CAN FREEZE TO DEATH IN THE DARK. Put you actions where your mouth is—or shut up & QUIT WHINING ! There are too many self appointed “experts” out there that don’t know what the hell they are talking about. Al Gore comes to mind…..
The EPA has got to GO!! How were these un-elected people given so much authority? That is where we can make a BIG difference and put those “officials” out of a job!!!!
Whatever led you to believe that EPA people are elected? Not so! At best they are appointed and they need to be stopped. These control freaks have no place controlling water (from a good size lake to a temporary puddle) anywhere they find it.
Since the beginning of the Obama Administrations, I have taken close attention to what the liberals want – and why. What I have seen upsets me greatly to the point that whatever Obama wants, I don’t. Setting aside the glaring abuses of our Constitution, what the liberal elements of our Government want is to control your life from the cradle to the grave. Using agencies like the EPA to “restrict” supposed abuses of our natural environment because of natural climate change is a crime against Americans that cannot be ignored. Coal is the most plentiful, and the most inexpensive fossil fuel we posses. I agree that we should find other sources of fuel to use to power our economy, but until technology advances, coal continues to be king, and should NOT be suppressed.
I also think that Thorium should be the nuclear fuel of the future, not uranium. You absolutely cannot make weapons grade material out of Thorium reactors, AND there is no risk of thermal runaway from Thorium reactors as there is from uranium or plutonium reactors we have today (see Fukishima). Also, thorium is almost as common as iron in the US. Go to YouTube and search Thorium reactors to see the safest nuclear reactors we could ever build. The only reason our Government rejected Thorium is that we needed fissile material for the Bomb, and we have enough of this material for the next million years in our hands right now. Thorium is the way to get away from fossil fuels, permanently.
Wow! Sir you nailed it, to the point and exactly how I feel. Thank you for putting it into print.
There’s no doubt that people here don’t believe in anthropogenic climate change with coal being the leading contributor as far as electricity generation. My electric supplier happens to be a coal fired co-op. Even so I believe we need to be swiftly changing to a sustainable power grid free from fossil fuels. Do a little reading about the carbon cycle. Science is not political and subject to opinion, it simply is.
John P. is correct. Coal is a leading contributor to a warming climate. As to the EPA conservatives see it as a irrational land grab for what/ power, ignorant control? Meanwhile liberals view the EPA as a block to overreaching industries that don’t have a thought as to the negative consequences of their profit motives. As the world gets sicker and we identify the things that are doing it with more regularity people can either divide up sides or move away from dependency on old solutions and make the necessary investment into new cleaner efficient ones that can create jobs and careers for our country.
Boy are you nieve!!
You are living proof propaganda works !!
Climate change has occurred since the dawn of time.
I scientists don’t go along with the “Global Warming” agenda, they lose their funding, and even their jobs! Look up what happened when Krakatoa exploded.
Personally I think you should go ahead and disconnect yourself from the grid and figure the rest out for yourself!
The E P A environmentle pin head agency. Most of the inspectors have little or no industry experienceHOW can. They apply regulations they don, they dondo not know how they apply regulations
I think the act that created the “EPA” needs to be repealed…and in a hurry! Not only has the “EPA” affected the economy it has also affected the 2nd amendment as well as the a broad range of industries in adverse ways within THIS country and only sent “these” businesses to other countries!!
