Colloidal silver – does it cure cancer or cause seizures?
By this time, there is a good chance you’ve heard about the reported health benefits of colloidal silver. Maybe you use it regularly as a supplement, or once in a while to treat a specific condition. You’ve probably also heard about the potential side effects of using colloidal silver, some of which are rather scary.
So, who should we believe? Should we take the word of people who want to sell this product to us, or should we trust the medical community that wants to protect itself from liability by saying that everything is bad for you? Are there actual health benefits to colloidal silver, and if so, do they outweigh the possible dangers?
First, let’s take a look at what colloidal silver is. Then we can examine both sides of this subject.
Colloidal silver products are made of tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid such as water or some gelatinous goo – the same type of precious metal that is used in jewelry, dental fillings, silverware and other consumer goods. They are usually marketed as dietary supplements that are taken by mouth.
These products also come in forms to be injected or applied to the skin. Colloidal silver is indeed silver – or at least a silver residue. A colloid is a particle of some substance, broken down and mixed into or suspended in liquid.
The medical community – including the Mayo Clinic and WebMD.com – has a number of things to say about colloidal silver, and none of them are very complimentary. Among them are:
• It is not an essential mineral supplement.
• It has no known function in the body.
• Its products that are marketed for medical purposes are now considered “misbranded” under the law.
• It is not considered safe or effective for any of the health claims that manufacturers make.
• No sound scientific studies to evaluate health claims made about it have been published in reputable medical journals.
• The Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.
• It can build up in your body’s tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria, a blue-gray discoloration of skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums.
• Excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures.
• When taken orally, colloidal silver can also wreak havoc on proteins and make other medicines less effective. For pregnant women, colloidal silver poses risks to the unborn child, as fetal abnormalities may develop due to its use.
Now, those are strong accusations against a product that many other people say has wonderful beneficial properties. In my next blog, I’ll let you know some of the positive things people are saying about colloidal silver, as well as how they go about using it.

I have used this for years on both my horses and myself. If you or your horse has an infection apply directly into eye using 3-4 drops in 1-3 days it clears up. I have used it on a friends horse which had a 14 inch laceration and the doctor told him it would be scared for life. First I removed all the big bandages that would not let the wound breath. Second applied colloidal silver and covered with light gaze bandage and sprayed 4 times a day for 5 days. Healing was now in place and applied only twice a day for 3 days then once a day for thee days and removed all bandages. I did remove stitches (18) and sprayed daily for three more days. in one month not only was the horse healed but the hair grew back in another two month you would not of known it even had an injury. I also use it for nose spray and have cured my granddaughter’s bronchitis using it through and atomizer. Any scratch or open sore on any animal spray it a forget it. We started using colloidal silver 20 + years ago. In a nebulizer for lung bronchial infections, for colds, flu’s.
Our dog was nebulized for pneumonia and cured with no problem. I fill the nebulizer cup with colloidal silver, add 5 drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 5 drops of nascent iodine (NOT lugols..lugols is too harsh for lung tissue), a pinch of baking soda and let these powerful cheap and effective ingredients heal my body. As far as “turning blue” that only happens when the silver particle size is too large. I’ve seen cheap home made silver generators that will cause this problem (using 3 9v batteries hooked up inseries for a 27v system…these are the colloidal silver generators that are the cause of argyra discolorations…because the particle size of the silver is too large.

I came upon colloidal silver 6 years ago when my 16 year od daughter was diagnosed with a severe form of mono. She had turned yellow and every gland in her body was so swollen she could only drink from a straw and could not lift her head off the pillow. The medical community put her on an antibiotic to clear up the strep throat and severe sinusitis that occurred due to the mono. They told me she would be out of school for about 8 weeks as her spllen had tripled in size.

Ever since I have been using colloidal silver for my 4 teenagers and my husband for ear infections’ stomach virus, strep throat, and bronchitis, burns cuts, or any other ailment. The key to using silver is to use at the earliest sign of symptoms. This decreases the number of doses. Once symptoms dissapear discontinue use.
I do however think it is important to make sure there are no allergies to silver and you have to be careful if you are an epileptic or have other conditions that may react negatively to silver use. I think you also have to be cautious using it on kids under 15 or 16 depending on their body weight which would determine the strength needed.
My daughter was diagnosed with Epilepsy. I’m allergic to more antibiotics than the average person most could kill me. I had a homeopathic physician recommend this to me decades ago. Colloidal silver was a remedy used around 1880’s to present day. The Food and Drug Administration tends to look the other way when dealing with ole time remedies because they work although there maybe no scientific medical evidence to back the claims. The only thing that may be construed as medical evidence are the folks that have used these old fashion remedies. If the concentration of silver is too high or the level of concentration in the body is too high there is a chance of the person turning blue. A colour that can not be reversed. But that doesn’t make this remedy useless by any means. All you can do is to give it a try and see if your health is restored.
Let me drop a little knowledge on you folks. Back in 1650’s physicians accidentally realized that if you place silver coins on a wound that wound would heal faster and without infection. The silver would prevented infections so they would scrape silver shaving into the wounds. Just think what would happen if you took a solution of silver particles suspended in a water solution. There are concerns, but, perhaps the benefits out weigh the short comings. You can turn blue, get well, or nothing happens. Just as if you were taking a miracle drug that may have some sort of adverse effects.
The Food and Drug Administration is just doing their jobs – protecting the citizen from unsubstantiated claims of an old remedy. I just wish they would go after the larger drug companies for some of their claims.
Word of caution about colloidal silver, please do your research before using it. I would hate to see you turn blue in the face because you didn’t understand the amount to be taken and how long you should be on it.
