I was reading the November issue of Patriot Alliance Messenger (Volume 5, Issue 11) and noticed on page 10 on the bottom right of the page the “MEET THE 4 REPLACEMENTS” that the vitamin B12 comment was not very accurate. Yes, vitamin B12 is a critical vitamin for your health in many ways, but there are many supplements for B12, but not all of them are the best way to get B12. For instance, the most common form of a B12 supplement is cyanocobalamin because it is the least expensive form for the provider (it is also the most common form that you will receive from your doctor if you take injections for it), but it takes the longest time to be effective because it is not yet in a form the body can readily use. At least 2 other forms are immediately ready for your body to use. The 2 other forms of B12 are Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin. These are slightly more expensive, but that’s because they are a more effective form. I am not a nutritionist, but I speak from experience in having had an malabsorption issue. It turns out I was supplementing with cyanocobalamin and my blood work was coming back at around 385 pg/mL (the standard range is 193-986pg/mL). Once I started supplementing with Methyl- and Adenosyl-, my numbers shot up almost immediately to just over 1200pg/mL. My latest blood work showed1494 pg/mL! Yes, that’s higher than the standard range, but one cannot overdose on B12. My primary care physician recommended I back off from my DAILY dose and try every other day.
I only bring this up because the article mentioned getting B12 tablets or getting a shot from your physician, but that will almost undoubtedly be in the form of cyanocobalamin, the inferior form of B12. B12 is SO important to neurological health and, along with Folic Acid or Folate, critical to production of red blood cells.
I am not criticizing your article, I am only adding more detail to a very important part of helping people with their health in a crisis.
The 2 most effective forms of B12 (Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin) are difficult to find, so I recommend the VEGANSAFE B12 from Global Healing Center.
Thanks for that very comprehensive look at the subject, Martin. Much appreciated.
Enjoy the products purchased.
