Home inspections without probable cause being proposed in Massachusetts.
Leave it to the only state in the Union that chose ultra liberal George McGovern in the 1972 presidential election to come up with this proposal. Selectman Barry Greenfield of Swampscott, Massachusetts, has proposed that police officers be able to inspect the homes of people who legally own guns – without any probable cause – to make sure that those guns are being stored safely.
I’m not even going to get into the absurdity of a law that requires people to have their guns locked away at all times. If an intruder breaks into my house, am I supposed to ask him to wait a few minutes before he harms my family so that I can walk upstairs to unlock the safe containing my gun and then come back to confront him?
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what this is about. They can’t stop people from legally buying guns – although they’d love to – and so they figure that they’ll try to do keep law-abiding citizens from using their guns. This is only the latest attempt to accomplish this goal, having been preceded by trying to buy up as much ammunition as possible and imposing heavy taxes on the ammo that remains available.
The folks who naively believe that gun violence will be reduced by taking guns away from law-abiding citizens are not going to give up this fight. And every time a tragedy occurs involving guns, they’ll pop up and say “I told you so.” They never seem to comprehend that a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun, unless of course they are successful in taking guns out of the hands of the good guys. That’s when the real carnage will begin.
Here’s a thought. Instead of the government once again sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong and trying to take guns away from its citizens, how about we keep convicted murderers and rapists in jail rather than allowing soft, liberal judges to let them out on “good behavior,” only to commit the same crimes again and shatter the lives of more innocent people.
How would you react if a police officer showed up at your door and demanded to see whether your guns were properly stored? Should law enforcement officials have the right to do that, or should Americans be protected against such searches without cause? I’d love to hear your thoughts about this.

The truth of our individual situations is that we are here on this planet temporarily. Every single thing we own, knives. Forks automobiles, money, gold diamonds silver wives, husbands, kids, finger nails, tents survival food eye sight is temporarily ours. When you die everything stays here. We are no longer Conservatives and Democrats. We are either Constitutionalists or Socialists. Do you recognize the saying “Freedom, is not free”? To my mind and heart, I consider myself already dead. I will not surrender to Socialism. Which is and was the political format of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and all of the mangy dictators around the world. The people leaving their countries because of said oppression are in my opinion, cowards. They should stand together and over run their oppressors and crush them by their sheer numbers. This says to me that you leave your loaded guns laying around for a child to find. So you sir should NEVER own a gun. They make quick access gun safes for quick access to guns to protect your home. Obviously you don’t own one. Responsible gun owners don’t leave their guns laying on the table or next to the bed in hopes a criminal comes to call. Currently, that proposal would not pass muster. (But with recent ‘interpretations’ of the Constitution, who knows what is next on that front.) One of the requirements to obtain a FFL to buy and sell guns, is to allow compliance inspections of your place of business, and its records. (So, don’t use a home office.) How long until that is required to get a ‘permit’ to buy a gun?
This action would constitute an illegal entry, illegal search, and seizure, This is the only reason to deify or take harm against law enforcement or any other.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Trac. Gun control will never stop those who want to commit horrific crimes. They always have a source to get a gun–always. The day we allow police officers to search our homes (without cause and a search warrant) will be the total end of every single, solitary freedom we cherish in the U.S. And yes, we ABSOLUTELY need to enforce term limits and put all representatives on the same healthcare we are on, not huge salaries and padded healthcare for the remainder of their lives! If all the citizens who feel strongly about this band together, I do not see how ANY president or Congress can enforce such a policy. Any person with common sense knows more gun control of any kind is not going to stop the bad guys from getting guns. With that said the American people need to all realize that our representatives know that too, and what they want is to disarm everyone that can legally own a gun. Once that is accomplished they can take away the rest of our freedoms with very little resistance. I believe most gun owners already know this but we have to inform and convince the rest of the people of this. We are as close to having a tyrannical government as we can get. And that is the reason our founding fathers gave us the 2nd amendment, and for no other reason, Period.

The root of most problems lie in the hands of people who want power, prestige, and privilege. And it is bestowed to those in elected offices. The longer one stays in office, the more self-righteous they become. If you want to diminish party partisanship, then institute term limits. When legislators are limited by time, they lose most of their power for bias.
Term limits are an excellent way to better control our representatives. They have long since lost site that they are supposed to be working for us and not to line their pockets. Another would be that they can not pass any laws that don’t also apply to them.

First, call your “firearm” attorney and if you don’t have one, get one who is knowledgable in the law in your area. On advice of mine, don’t let them in, don’t let them go around your right by voluntarily letting them in to see. 2A and 4A are your important safeguards along with your 1A right to say so.
That’s probably the best first step, not to bend to their will. Once we allow things like this to happen they will surely walk all over us. They seem to like to test to see just how far they can push us and get away with it without much objection from us. And that is exactly what much of this is all about.

I was in during Nam too but thank GOD I was chosen for Korea instead. I lost a lot of good friends in Vietnam. Senseless war like so many our government have taken us into. But even though they say fighting for our freedoms here that’s all a smoke screen for our government’s real agenda for going to war. They not just want to control us, they want to control the world especially those countries that don’t readily bend to their will. We need to focus on our own country, it’s security and infrastructure. If you have guns that are not registered, hide them in a safe place where they can’t be found and only keep your registered guns in your home, so if they come get your registered guns then you will still have weapons to protect your family. All hell is going to break loose and soon, so make sure you have water and food. Also candles, flash lights and if you have a fireplace that is a plus. Most of all a generator that runs on gas. More importantly, plenty of ammunition.
You may have said more than you realize. A generator that runs on gas will run on wood gas. Just in case you didn’t know. You can build a very simple and easy to use wood gas generator to run your generator on. It’s so bad that FEMA has published a popular model during WWII on the their site. Yes gasoline generator is good but gasoline will be gone in a day or two. Been there and saw it during hurricanes. I’ve been through several. You can even make on for your vehicle., Of course the new cars with all electronics injection and crap will be most difficult to convert. Hell if necessary you can even strap the generator, “Gas generator” on top of the car. A small Pick up is a better choice.
I hope people are prepared for what is coming in our near future. We are all looking at some very bad times ahead.

I had two detective’s show up at my door with (here’s the spin they used) someone from the child protection agency, saying that they had a “anonymous” complaint filed regarding the safety of my children. (My estranged and adulterous wife later said she had nothing to do with it) The complaint stated that I had a unusual number of loaded guns stashed around the house, and my children, both of whom have taken hunting safety classes, had access to them. They also threw into the mix a comment about the prescriptions I am on, due to a spinal injury. I had to either allow them to inspect my house and guns, or lose my joint custody rights. I had to make a choice right there and then. I allowed the inspection, which felt like being molested and interrogated at the same time. They did however leave without collaborating evidence. I believe this shows what lengths the, not only Federal, but local government will take to spy on us any time they want. Wake up America, its no longer when they will take away our rights and privacy, but how much of it they will allow us to keep, and for how long.
You should immediately obtain copies of all reports including dispatch recordings, memos etc. and get an attorney. You were coerced into giving up your rights to not being searched. Total B.S. and as a 29 year LE veteran it is an embarrassment to all who wear a badge. Fedrally that is called a Violation of Color of Law, also an infringement of the fourth amenment, probably also a violation of HIPPA laws.

had you been knowledgeable about any of this you would know that, absent any warrant, you could have told them to leave. Secondly were they to have followed through with the threat of your loss of custody, which they very likely would not have done, but, in the event they would have, you’d have had one helluva lawsuit; in part because they, the police, intervened in a civil case, (your divorce) using the threats of you waiving your right(s) which is, among other things, coercion and extortion, and ALL a crime under federal law.

When are we going to stop this madness? First we must recognize that ALL politicians are corrupt. There really are only few Liberals or Conservatives. They are mostly Progressives, and if you don’t know who and what they are, you better find out fast. Next figure out WHY? So lets think about it. We let them trade favors for votes. After they are in office, they do it with OUR money. So lets change the rules! Make it illegal for politicians to accept contributions from anyone for any reason. In fact, make it illegal even to use one’s own money to run for any office. Yes, the tax payers would have to set up a political fund for politicians to use to run for office/reelection. But, think of all the money we would save by eliminating the graft. Plus, hopefully we can figure out a minimal amount for these elections so that the candidate only has enough to state his/her credentials, not run down the opponent . Sure it will require a Constitutional Convention to accomplish this, but if everyone forgets their petty differences and thinks only of saving the country, we CAN do it.
I believe that there is a real problem where the Federal government has ignored the Tenth Amendment. It has usurped the rights of the states by hanging the proverbial carrot of ‘government money’ as a way to keep the states in line with their thinking and policies. Personally I believe that in order to make change one has to start with the tow or city where they live, then become involved in states decisions, and if enough states stood up for the people instead of themselves, then the feds would not have this kind of influence or sway over the states. When the states become self sufficient then the role of the Federal government is to ‘protect the citizenry, consider the need for war, and assistance the states. As long as the states keep looking for a handout the feds are going to set the rules. Cleanup our back yards first, the fire all the lazy politicians in Washington who are working for themselves and not the people.

I do the same thing. Not once have we had an “accident”. I’ve been carrying for 32 years and never had an accidental discharge. I believe their problem is that they need to elect better people. Change the laws back to where they are sensible. Then keep the liberals and ignorant people out of government.

I have listened to the gun control debate with the rantings of those who believe that control of guns will stop people from killing each other. Those who want to kill others will find a way to do so. Consider the Oklahoma City bombings as an example.
We need to consider factors such as the Japanese did not invade this country in World War 2 because they knew the citizenry of the USA were armed. Had we not been armed, who knows what might have happened.
We have had laws in effect on the illegal use of drugs for years, yet how many have died from overdoses of these drugs yet the prohibitive laws have had little effect on their use. Now the people think passing laws to outlaw guns will solve the problem. So much for the wisdom of the people who feel if we control or destroy or regulate guns or magazines it will solve the problem.
We have also had laws on the books for years against driving while intoxicated. Yet how many people are still slaughtered each year due to this problem? Do we see efforts to stop the advertising of alcoholic drinks on TV? We see programs where the off-duty police head for the bars to unwind. What are we teaching our people? Then those drinking in the bars jump into their cars and head home. Where is the outrage over these deaths? There is none because they only kill one or two at a time, yet over a year thousands are killed!
We have the Homeland Security Act to protect us. Hah!! The fact, as has been pointed out above, is the armed citizens have been and will continue to be the crux of the homeland security system. Yet the President who sent automatic weapons to Mexico recently, one which was used to kill a beauty queen, wants to restrict our weapons.
We learned on 9/11/2001 that those who hate Americans are not afraid to come here to kill. That took thousands of lives. Or have we forgotten? Oh yes, that was done with aircraft flying into buildings. Are airplanes next on the list?
I have much compassion for those who have lost loved ones in all these issues, but to handicap us by putting us on an uneven playing field with restrictions is not the answer. Those who will be encouraged by our restrictions will be bringing automatic weapons with large magazines. Oh yes, I forgot, they use airplanes or perhaps it will be the dirty bomb being worried about now.
We must not handicap our real homeland security, the armed citizens, who will step up and answer the call to defend those who would rather roll over and play dead.
We need to educate people with respect for each other. We need to curtail the greed that allows banks, insurance companies, oil companies and others to rob people with record profits and pay CEO’s millions of dollars for bonuses. Those people don’t have to spend every dollar they make to live. We Do!!!

People need to understand 9/11 happened so our government could institute home land security, the patriot act, TSA and other organizations to make it easier to control the American people. Fast and furious gun running exchange was yet another way to help promote our government’s agenda in taking away our 2nd amendment rights. Which I might add that I am against. I carry a concealed weapon and think that crime in public places would be eliminated if everyone carried concealed. weapons. I moved from MA 30 years ago because of their weapon laws. I figured it would only get worse (I guess I was right). Gun control is the main issue here. But it is our government or the people running our government that is the real issue. They want more control over us. When we should be controlling them. And as you say we need to have term limits. I believe we also need to reduce their wages and make it more desirable to serve the people instead of seeing a way to make a quick buck. 1. Put GOD back at the head of this nation.

3. Elect only the common man, (or woman) to congress and as president.
4. Strictly restrict the number of terms anyone can serve.

6. (this is related to number 2) Anyone convicted of murder (premeditated laying in wait) and rape be executed quickly and publicly. The ken should have the right to push the button, drop the pill, pull the switch and send them to GOD and these things will cease to happen!
7. All in government and the judges MUST follow the Constitution as it is written. No interpretation, addition or idiot decisions.

The gun debate is just a way for the government to get citizens that want to have and responsibly use guns and those that do not want guns angry at each other; it keeps us off the real problem: people who are seriously disturbed belong in asylums, not on the street. President Reagan is the one who closed down the asylums, and think about it, we’ve had these shooters ever since. Fix THIS and all the rest of us can have a difference of opinion, but not be so emotionally angry at the others. I believe in gun rights, but understand the anger of those who have lost family, friends to random shooters who need treatment. Stop the anger at each other and put those who are a danger in a facility that can treat them.

Those mentally ill that are harmful to themselves and others are instiltuionalized. Those that have slipped through the cracks are the result of the failure of the family or the mental system. Here’s another thought. You are a law-abiding citizen and someone breaks in to harm you and your family. You shoot and kill the bad guy who broke in. You go to court and get convicted. Now I guess, you should never get out of prison. You should never have another gun either. YOU ALL ARE MISSING THE POINT. When people got out of jail/prison back in the old days, they gave you some money, a horse, and your gun and sent you on your way. That’s how the Constitution and it’s Amendments were read; you still had the right to carry you gun. Yet, that Constitution and its Amendment never changed. So, no matter if you are convicted or not, you still have the right to bear arms (a gun) to protect yourself and your family. By making a law, or laws, against your Constitution and Amendment to bear arms (carry a gun), you infringe upon those rights. You don’t have to have a Ph.D. to figure that out. FURTHERMORE, TO ALL YOU GOODY TWO-SHOES, you’re not without some fault either. You just haven’t been found out yet. If you cannot present a case without downing someone who has been convicted (To you, now a criminal), you have to case to present for your constitutional rights. They can be immune to any laws, as long as they got there asses covered by the others, if not then they will take there own down..proven, they can kill with immunity, without having to endure scrutiny of the public in general, as they do an internal investigation, and it is said they followed the book of procedures, and committed no wrong and returned to duty, to do it again, yet you defend yourself, with or without a weapon, you are criminally charged, ran through the system, and your rights are suspended, weapons are taken away, before you even get to trial, and never returned even if your found innocent, your record is tainted with this case unless you know how to seal it, got the money to do so, yet if you have an argument with your spouse you are then labelled a domestic violence person and the woman whom was involved is allowed to get a weapon after, even if she initiated the violence! you right to have a weapon is null and void if you have domestic violence on your record, and such an allegation on it can never be removed or sealed. even after 10 years, your right to own one is never restored, even if you never was convicted or found guilty! Then you are considered a criminal, then they get you to fight with a cop, trying to protect yourself from unlawful arrest and fabrication of evidence, other cops saying they seen you assault an officer, even when you haven’t, they assaulted you, because you have a record now for domestic violence, even if there were never any physical contact, during the argument.. Charlie H. you are correct in 100% of what you said. and i might add that the second article of the constitution “the second amendment” is about having the tools necessary to remove a tyrantical Government, which is exactly what they did when they formed this once great country, they kicked king george and his army out of the country and then a few years later king george sent his army back here to try and make us subject to his rule, and that war was again fought on American soil, but we won that war too.

I agree. If we intend to support the 2nd amendment then we need to do it for all American people. Illinois has the strictest concealed carry law in the U.S. I should have never had to go through all the hoops that they made me jump through so I could use my 2nd amendment rights. First things First, I canceled my health insurance once Oboma said I had to have it. Then once he put his 2 cents into it the price went 501.00 to 700.00 mounty with a higher copay & a 2500.00 decidable that I didn’t have with my 501.00 Insurance. Politicians that attack the civil rights of the people should be arrested for treason and jailed for a minimum of 10 years and in cases where they conspire with other politicians to pass such laws, they should be executed as a direct threat to American society. Most police are cowards. This was demonstrated in Colorado at the Columbine High School incident many years ago where over 100 police officers surrounded the school, hid behind school buses, and let several people be killed but were not one was brave enough to go into the building. This went on for many hours.
Other examples are the many examples of police brutality. Only when a person is hand-cuffed and face down on the ground are the police brave enough to proceed with beating and kicking their victim. One on one, they are afraid.
Many time, out of fear, they do not respond to a call for help. These examples seem to be on the news more and more often. That is why we need to be well-armed to protect ourselves, our families, and our property.

You are right and one of the things that no one ever talks about is, A lot of people, some of my friends who own their small personable honest bussiness stuck with gov. & IRS rip off regulations, laws, put them in a position where they feel that they will not Vote because they will be placed into 2 weeks to be on court 30 days open stay off work for 12 person desiders of who is guilty or inocent that involves that the judge and the attorneys make side deals afterwords after you said what was was true. And then they have you on their list to use you and your time.
Don’t you (or everyone) “get” it? IMO, guns are just the excuse of the moment; the underlying effort by far — with objections to civilian gun-ownership being flaunted as the decoy — is to intrude a totalitarian form of control over every aspect of our private lives, allegedly “for our own good”.
IMO, the issue of how to keep guns — or any weapons that can inflict physical harm — out of the reach of criminals and potentially dangerous mentally unbalanced persons is indeed a complex and difficult issue. But to seek to impose a “solution” that is not really a “solution” — by disarming law-abiding, stable, citizens — and by flinging open a door to widespread (and presumably unstoppably intensifying) totalitarian controls over the population — is no solution at all.

Sounds like what the Selectman proposes runs counter to the 4th Amendment which was designed to protect ‘we the people’ from illegal searches and seizures!!??
